Looking for Headmasters

Can someone recommend the best DVD set for the series that immediately followed the US G1 cartoon series? I'm looking for a set that preferably is dubbed in English. Whichever set contains the full G1 storyline is the one I want. I've seen a few out there but am unsure which one fits the above criteria.

There is none. Sorry Dude. They never dubbed it.

Headmasters/Masterforce/Victory WERE dubbed in English....in Hong Kong/Korea? These are commonly known as the "Star TV Dubs", and I doubt they're very official. To put it bluntly, they're good for a laugh, and are better than nothing, but aren't very good. Plus, Headmasters is commonly mis-translated. For example:

Blurr=Wally
Blaster=Billy
Twincast=Blaster
Soundblaster=New Soundwave
Raiden=Grimlock
Metroplex=Philip(?)

Oh, and youtube time:

Masterforce and Victory were improvements, but that's probably because there wasn't as much baggage for the viewer(meaning, all these characters were pretty much new and preconcieved notions on what they sound like or called were generally lax.)

Oh, and if you are a fan of the 90's Godzilla dubbed movies, you'll hear a few of the same voice actors.

Well that's all the information I have regarding that. I'm sorry, but I can't help you in knowing which sets to get. I myself have a very poor VHS collection, purchased years ago.

That's not entirely accurate. Omni Productions did do an English dub of Headmasters (and Masterforce, and Victory) but they're terrible. Characters and items are renamed for no reason, the "actors" have no inflection (You ever hear the old Speed Racer dub? This is worse by several magnitudes).

Still, Madman did include them as an audio option when they released the Japanese G1 series on DVD.

Ok, so forgeting English dubbed, what is the best all around DVD set when it comes to completing the G1 storyline? If I have to read subs I will, it's better than TERRIBLE English voice overs.

Madman has the only release of Japanese G1, and that's on Region 4/PAL format. That said. most "WalMart Special" dvd players can be unlocked (if the don't come unlocked already).

I'm looking specifically for the continuation of the G1 storyline after the US series ended. I have the entire US series, but I wanted a suggestion as far as a DVD set(s) that continues/finishes the G1 animated series. As far as whats the best one to get?

Get the Madman release

Is superior to the other ones I have seen

Put it on, click english subtitles and go.

Forget watching the dubbed crap, it really is that bad.

After a bit watching with subtitles isnt so bad, it matches up fairly well and you arent rushed to read them either

There have been two DVD releases of The Headmasters, Chojin Masterforce, and Victory.

First, there are the ones released by Metrodome in the U.K.

TFWiki.net wrote:A four-disc box set collecting the entire Headmasters anime series. The set features the original Japanese audio track with newly-created (and inconsistent) English subtitles, with the infamous Omni Productions dub as a second option. The masters supplied to Metrodome proved slightly incomplete, however, lacking the "next episode" previews, and the few segments that come before the title cards of certain episodes. The set features audio commentaries on three episodes by UK fan Chris McFeely

TFWiki.net wrote:A five-disc box set collecting the Super-God Masterforce anime series (omitting the clip show that was broadcast as the final episode of the series in Japan). This set includes only the Japanese audio with subtitles, this time translated by Jordan L. Derber. The set again features three audio commentaries by McFeely. Cover art by Nick Roche.

TFWiki.net wrote:A four-disc box set collecting the entire Victory anime series. As with Masterforce, the set includes only the Japanese audio, subs by Derber, and three commentaries by McFeely. Notably, the set omits the six (!) clip shows present in the original broadcast run of the series, featuring only the core 32 episodes. Cover art by Nick Roche.

And the above three sets compiled together in one set.

Second are the ones released by Madman in Australia.

TFWiki.net wrote:Four-disc set featuring the Headmasters series available in the original Japanese and the Omni Productions English dub, with optional English subtitles replicated from Metrodome's previous release, complete with errors.
Extras include a "making of the cover" gallery, character art galleries, toy galleries (taken from Seibertron.com) and Japanese toy commercials.

Extras include box art galleries, toy galleries (with pictures from seibertron.com and transformerstoys.co.uk) and Japanese commercials (which are all for Zone toys, and include what appears to be an industry pitch reel used to demonstrate the toys to retailers), as well as scans of the TV Magazine Zone story pages available via DVD-ROM.
In keeping with Madman's dodgy enthusiasm there's a bunch of seemingly random (sometimes translated, sometimes not) scans of manga and story-page material for Battlestars and Operation Combination included in the set as well.

And the above three compiled together in one set

TFWiki.net wrote:To capitalize on the release of Revenge of the Fallen, all three of the Japanese Generation 1 sets were re-released in one package at a lower price point ($99.95AUD versus $150-odd AUD).

HOWEVER, there is a third, much cheaper option: TV-Nihon's fansub releases of these three series (which are free to download via torrent download or direct download). Their Headmasters subs do not contain the errors that both DVD subs have, and they include all the missing footage from the DVDs of that series as well. Their Masterforce subs include the missing special episode that aired at the end of the seires, and their Victory do include all 6 broadcast clip episodes.

Technically theres no such thing as a Japanese continuation to the US series.

The US series ended with "The Rebirth".

The 3 Japanese series start up after "The Return of Optimus Prime" and omit "The Rebirth".
