Your Protectobot origin theory

I know that the Protectobots never received an "origin episode" in the G1 cartoon (so short-changed, they were... D:), but there had to had been some plausible explanation for their existence.

Could we say that Wheeljack built them (he and Ratchet did construct the Dinobots, after all)?

Well, anyway, I wanna hear you theory/ies. Let 'em rip!

Heya!

I love the Protectobots!!

I've learnt recently that the canon for G1 was changed several times before the protectobots arrived so I just want to excercise caution and mention that I don't have any idea how reliable what I say still is (but it's canon to me):

But:

Acording to my introduction to them in the '80s, the Protectobots were amongst the Re-enforcements that came to Earth from Cybertron (Generation 1.5) after both sides found out that Optimus and Megzy were still alive (and Earth had Energon).

Optimus commissioned the Protectobots and Defensor to take care of the Human casualties and the collateral damage to Human cities,so they took the emergency-response AltModes we are familiar with, tho I assume their Cybertronian role was something similar to emergency response/first response roles, anyway.
Defensor was a just-in-case safety feature to make sure the Protectobots had the firepower they needed to neutralize/counter Decepticon surprises when caught away from the main battle.

In terms of theories, I theorise that all the G1.5 Autobots (Hoist,Grapple,Red Alert, Inferno,Protectobots etc.) got to Earth hitching a ride onboard Omega Supreme.

If you don't find a more 'truthful' truth, I hope this good for ya!

I always figured that Tracks, Red Alert, et al had been found in previously inaccessible parts of the Ark as the Autobots started clearing out the rubble.

Sounds logical to me.

There's a fanfic that mentioned the idea too, FWIW.

Red Alert and Smokescreen are just Sideswipe and Prowl in makeup, and among some of the many Autobots that Prime had repaint themselves to make Megatron think his army was larger than it actually was. Maybe?

edit: The Protectobots? the Anti-Combaticons. One day Ratchet went to try and help humans, and Prime got all positive about it, and told him to make new Autobots. Sparkplug had some banged up old emergency vehicles in his garage and they put some magical glowy pink squares into them and voila, Defensor!

Considering they ran out of 'cybertronium' at the same time as the others in 'Desertion of the DInobots', it's almost confirmed.

Yup, you could reason that the majority of reinforcements was put in stasis to conserve energon for the core crew when they left Cybertron.

This was shown to be the case in the Marvel comics:

It would seem plausible that something like this could have happend in the cartoon.

I think that Wheeljack, Ratchet and/or Perceptor simply redesigned the Protectobots with the Aerialbot combiner tech.

Hey! That's great stuff you have there! Nice theory; do like. :)

As orrie has already said, it does sound very logical. A good theory, too, might I add.

Well, I'm kind of assuming they came to Earth from Cybertron sort of like the new Autobots in ROTF.
