Comic timeline overlaps?

Hi all,

I've been aware of this site for years, checked it on and off for a long time, but never regged. So this is my first post.

Watched G1 back in the day, bought toys in the last few years (Anniversary diecast Prime, Alternators etc.) got all the DVDs -- and now I'm going back into the comics. Sorry to ask the ever-recurring question, but I have consulted the guides here and elsewhere, and I'm still not sure what I should be buying next. So far I have:

IDW Classic Transformers Vols 1-6
IDW TFs UK Omnibus
IDW TFs War Within Omnibus
Primal Scream, Time Wars etc.

Questions:

1. Largely looking to avoid duplication. I'm getting signals crossed on reprints already (eg, I think the short softcover I have called Time Wars is also in the UK Omnibus I recently bought?) Anywhere I can go that has a straightforward index that will show me these overlaps?

2. I'm getting a handle on the various continuities. I know it would be a matter of personal preference, but are there volumes/continuities that an old skool G1 fan (who knows nothing of eg Beast Wars, Armada etc.) should definitely read? (material that was written for the G1 fan in mind?)

3. I have a die hard G1 bud that says I should try Beast Wars. I may just get the Beast Wars and Armada Omnibi (Omnibuses?) if I can. Like question #2, what should a G1 fan avoid? Would the newest IDW stuff be worth me buying?

Thanks for any and all recommendations,
-Aes

As per your first question, here is a good website I found which discusses each of the various TF comics from the '80s until now:

http://www.tfarchive.com/comics/idw/

Regarding your third question, here are my recommendations:

1.) Last Stand of the Wreckers
2.) Megatron Origin
3.) Stormbringer
4.) Maximum Dinobots
5.) Spotlight: Revelation
6.) All Hail Megatron

If you want to stray outside of the IDW continuity, then I would definitely recommend all three of Dreamwave's "War Within" story-arcs.

Nefarious and Ironhide are also pretty good, check them out if you get the chance.

Well, Marvel's G1 series, of course. I think it's only available in trade paperbacks anymore, from Titan Books in the UK. I bought all of them when they came out, the complete US G1 and G2 series. I don't know all the titles, but you should get all of them. If you're a fan of G1 like you say and haven't read this stuff, it's a MUST.
