haha, nice mosaic man. I actually own the copy that the last couple panels refer to... That always struck me as a bad decision for prime... they're just video game characters... nothing sentient really... another reason why I question the power and command of Optimus Prime.

Optimus Prime didn't actually show much concern for Skids' apparent death.
He did not organise a recovery mission for Skids' body. Nor did he show much relief when Skids returned - he was like "oh hey, we thought you were dead. now get back to work."

And in animated, he was the one who decided against going back to check for Elita-1
Death to Optimus!
Hail Megatron!

He hid it all inside, as any general must do if he is to win the war?

"I knew you would come back, you're a SURVIVOR. This is why I never worried about you".

The main goal of this Mosaic is an attempt at explaining the apparently hasty decision made by Optimus Prime in the infamous G1 Marvel US #24 "Afterdeath".
We all know that Bob Budiansky had been instructed by Hasbro to remove old characters and make room for new ones, but we can try and use some previous events from the Marvel US/UK mixed continuities to give a different version of the story.
The focus on Optimus Prime's inner thoughts is also meant to subtly connect to his resurrection in issue G1 Marvel US #42 and the subsequent reflections in G1 Marvel UK #198.
The connection is given by the fact that, in "Cold comfort and joy!", Optimus is completing an inner quest, discovering his own motivations to fight the good fight once again.
Our Mosaic is a prelude to the "spiritual rediscovery/rebirth" of that episode.
Issue references.
Panels 1, 6,7: G1 Marvel US #24
Panel 2: G1 Marvel US #10
Panel 3: G1 Marvel US #12
Panel 4: G1 Marvel UK #83
Panel 5: G1 Marvel US #19.
Panel 6: "Giri" is a reference to G1 cartoon episode "The burden hardest to bear".

I figured the core message here in your mosaic, but as a Decepticon, I see things a different way.

Marvel Transformers #24 was the first comic book I ever purchased. I love that story! Bought it at a 7eleven in Jackson, MI where I grew up. It's good to see the original comic story get some love in these Mosaics.

Awesome, that's way better then the original reason for Prime's death.

THank you, that's flattering.
But, truth be told, both Budiansky and Furman had already created all the needed background: we just had to sew the pieces together

I love it...
But to be frank, this simply reinforces my belief that Ratchet was a bigger hero than Prime in the Marvel comics.

I...don't get it...besides the Giri thing since it was in that one episode.
I still liked it, but this is probably the Mosaic where I'm least familiar with the background material.

Basically, in the Marvel Comics, Megatron and Optimus played a video game in which the loser would be exploded. Megatron lost, but Optimus decided to be exploded instead because he killed some NPCs while playing against Megatron.
The chapter was incredibly stupid from start to finish, so this Mosaic is trying to justify one of the biggest brainfarts in the history of Transformers by giving more depth to Optimus' decision to die.

Ohhh, I remember reading that on the "The many deaths of Optimus Prime" wiki page.
I always thought it was stupid...he died over a VIDEO GAME? Or because he failed to keep up with his morals in a game as the wiki puts it...

Yea, he basically lost coz the NPCs (non-player characters) were being threatend by the Decepticons. I mean, where the line stands for an artificial intelligence being treated as a valid and substantial life form is hard to always see, but..seriously, these were nothing more than NPCs like any video game you find... no higher conciousness.

Not to mention in the cartoon at least, he did sort of attempt to kill other living TransFormers, he orders Devstator's death and tries to kill Megatron in the 86 movie.
But then again, the cartoon and comics aren't connected so...

Yea you gota fish out the good stuff and forget the rest haha, although i love watching the old cartoons now and then, the lack of quality and.. just everything about it is hilarious. You want 'spoof' transformers just watch the toons haha.
Well, Megatron and Devastator are... banes of the universe, pretty sure everyone would let those commands slide, haha. They make the NPCs look like they have family, tug on Optimus's heart strings since he wishes he had a family but can't achieve one with his lack of genitelia..... poor..poor Optimus.
