Now ive only been collecting the figures since just before the first movie but im also an early 80's child and love the classics can somebody give me a starting point on whats hot and whats not in movie/classic comics(not 80's marvel) , ive had a look on ebay for #1 to start and theres a couple mini series and ongoing.

What other classic comic series is there???

But if you don't want to read that, I'd recommend the 2 DW G1 series that ran from 2002 to 2004 IIRC. After that, read War Within's first 2 series. Don't bother with the 3rd, it was never finished. Then move onto the Armada comics from DW. Really good stuff. I can't tell you anything about IDW, because I stopped reading when the Energon comics started.

Start with Transformers: All Hail Megatron #1-16, Transformers: Spotlight-Jazz, Drift, Metroplex, Blurr and Prowl then read the ongoing along with Bumblebee, Ironhide, Drift, and The Last Stand of the Wreckers mini-series.

Don't pay attention to the crybabies do yourself a big favor and ADVOID Simon Furman's IDW run like the plague, all of it just plain sucks. Trust me I know.

Yes, stay clear of nasty ads

Anyway, aren't you being a crybaby about Furman's work with your comment?

Don't simply force people to conform to your own tastes by saying what they should and shouldn't read.

My advice, give people a couple of pointers to good issues and then let them decide themselves.

I'd personally recommend the following:

War Within: if you like it then read vol. 2 and then DW ongoing

IDW: Read Infiltration and Escalation back to back. If you like it then read Stormbringer, Devastation, Revalation, Maximum Dinobots and Last Stand of the wreckers.

IDW 2: AHM, if you like it then read the list Cyberstrike gave.

I personally enjoy the current ongoing series and it's spin off mini-series Transformers: Ironhide which takes place after the first two trades.
