I have heard from a fan who attended a recent autograph signing in the UK, Simon Furman hinted that Unicron will be appearing in the IDW comic book. He added the cryptic remark, "...but not in any way you would expect..."

Let the speculation begin!

So he's actually going to be part of a decent storyline?

If he ain't a planet sized, planet shaped, planet consuming demi-god who transforms into a hugeass robot, then I don't wanna know... :P

I'm betting it will be something similar to Ultimate Galactus. Or, failing that, he'll be the remains of Cybertron.

RE: My previous statement.

So much for that.

I doubt it's a Spotlight, there's too much to Unicron to contain in one issue, especially since comic books have been reduced today w/advertisemsnts like TV has........I would like to see him square off against Galactus in TF's/New Avengers.....then I could prove my friend wrong that Unicron COULD kick Galactus' ass!!

I really think a Unicron spotlight would do some sort of good. Maybe a "Unicron Origin" type thing? Maybe? Please?

Unicrons origin was already covered in the Marvel comics (the good origin) and the season 3 episode call of the primitives (the sucky origin).

well it seems pretty obvious to me that if we're gonna have unicron in the series without ending up just redoing the whole ass end of the original marvel series you just have to have him eat some other world without actually meeting him at all. surely theres got to be millions or billions of refugees wandering about tryin to find a new home world ala battlestar galactica and sooner or later some TF must run into at least one of em. you could very easily do a story where a wars broke out between and indiginous race and a dispossesed one trying to take over their world becasue they couldnt be arsed finding a barren one

i love unicron as a concept but like galactus i think he should be kept out there as a threat and not used too much because it'll just devalue him.
theres alot you can do with the guy that just deals with the consequences of his existance and actions without having him in a story at all. i mean how many characters are out there thatve got the galvatron treatment and won their freedom? they'd be a pretty big fecking threat themselves so theres scope for some fun here without becoming repetitive :)

Second BW (show continuity) mini, which has been known for a while.

At a guess, Rob misheard or you're leaving out the BW bit.

I kinda figured that when he mentioned the Blendtrons as part of "The Ascending" cast. Though in all frankness, it doesn't go against my earlier comments.

There are two buckets ready if Furman wants to do a movie rehash in the IDW main line... one has tar, the other feathers...

I thought Furman indicated that he would never do Unicron.

In the IDW main continuity. Beast Wars isn't part of that.

If that's not the most convenient excuse ever, I don't know what is.

My best guess, Unicron is the name of some big corporation.

My best guess, Furman is getting nervous without one of his comfort crutches.

I think the use of Grimlock in "The Gathering" proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Geez.... can we not go there......at least for another 7 years or so... Armada, Energon, and Cybertron really over emphasized the Name and word of Unicron so much so that My ears cringe at the mere sound of the name...

that whole Primus thing was really stupid too.. I would choose the darn Beast machines Cybertron over a Primus Cybertron any day!!! the concept is just ridiculous!

I could buy that..it even has the ring of an international conglomerate: "Unicron Enterprises." Or maybe the "big project" the Machination has going for it is codenamed "Unicron" after some obscure (re: invented) character in myth...because, in all sincerity, I think my head would explode if the Planet-Devourer returned.

As for Grimlock's role in the new Beast Wars and Furman's overuse of the character...yeah, it is a red flag, but c'mon. Grimlock has always been one of the most popular Transformers, period--his presence in a toy line always drives the fans crazy (usually in a good way), and just talk of the "token badass" joining the movie cast has caused a bit of buzz. It could be that his use is Furman falling back on an old trick...but it could be that IDW, known for producing comics based on pre-established franchises for the fans of said franchises, is giving the character a little push into the spotlight.

Maybe Unicron turns out to have a brother, and he fights him for dominance in the universe.
