True purpose of IDW's Infestation revealed by MTV?

While I have thoroughly enjoyed the Infestation series of comics (which is saying a lot from someone who has been a negative nancy about Transformers comics, and comics in general for that matter, for a number of years), I had a feeling IDW had a much bigger idea in mind. I thought it would be an ongoing Zombies vs Robots series or something once that had brought those books to the attention of Transformers, Star Trek, Ghostbusters and G.I.Joe fans around the world. I never dreamt it would be a movie deal. Or that famous Transformers 3 director Michael Bay might be helming it.

Infestation might turn out to be one of the greatest marketing ideas just yet. Kudos to IDW.

Hmmmmm.........interesting. Seems like zombies be no match for robots though.

So is Infestation a Transformers series or a zombie series? I haven't picked up a single IDW book since about 2004, right after DW's Armada and War Within comics, right when DW went under. I tried an IDW comic, can't even remember what it was (it was Transformers) but I was so disappointed that I just put it down and never bothered with a second look. I'm seriously thinking about picking up Maximum Dinobots and Last Stand of the Wreckers, based on what I've heard.

Infestation is an IDW crossover that includes four of their licensed properties: Ghostbusters, Star Trek, Transformers and G.I.Joe. Once you start reading the series, it makes sense how they're dealing with this "crossover" that affects all four universes. It's actually a really good series so far. This is the first time I have truly enjoyed a comic book series in years. And I'll tell you why ... because the books are short (each property gets two books and the series starts with Infestation #1, goes through each properties two books, then ends with Infestation #2). Each property has to tell their own part of the Infestation storyline in only two books. The writers actually have to put a ton of story into their two books. I'm so sick and tired of stories that are dragged out to 5 or 6 books that could've been told in two just so that they can put it in a trade paperback later down the road. Some people might think that the writers are trying to cram too much into these books, but I think they're perfect. They remind me of how comic book stories used to be told.

Kudos to IDW. I thought this was going to be some bullshit story but it turned out to be an incredible story so far. I'm half way through ... can't wait to see how it ends.
