FROM SHOUT! FACTORY

"MEGATRON has not been seen nor heard from in sometime, and if his
return is imminent, it could be catastrophic," said OPTIMUS PRIME.

The lure of the TRANSFORMERS saga starts a new chapter as all foes return, legendary heroes rise, and new ones are found in unlikely places. The new CGI animated series TRANSFORMERS PRIME, which currently airs on The Hub television network and is a Hasbro Studios production, deepens the epic mythology of both the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS, while starting fresh for a new generation of fans. Arch rivals the AUTOBOTS and the evil DECEPTICONS, lead by MEGATRON once again face-off in their rivalry for control of Earth in this new show. Celebrate the triumphant return of the AUTOBOTS through cutting-edge CGI animation with TRANSFORMERS PRIME - DARKNESS RISING. Early 2011, loyal TRANSFORMERS fans, as well as families and kids, were introduced to this visually stunning five-part miniseries on The Hub. OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE, ARCEE, AUTOBOT RATCHET, BULKHEAD, and many others are back to "roll out" against MEGATRON's latest attempt to conquer Earth. And MEGATRON proves to be more powerful than ever, having acquired a rare element that allows him mastery over life itself. OPTIMUS PRIME and the AUTBOTS may be few against the DECEPTICON hordes, but they find increased strength through bonds forged with three human teenagers, taking the human drama to levels as yet unseen by the franchise.

On December 6, 2011, Shout! Factory, in collaboration with Hasbro, Inc, will release TRANSFORMERS PRIME - DARKNESS RISING DVD, featuring the entire five action-packed episodes. Delivering a new level of heavy metal action and family entertainment for all ages, this highly collectible DVD is priced to own with a suggested retail price of $14.97.

TRANSFORMERS PRIME - DARKNESS RISING boasts an all-star voice cast, including Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, Steve Blum, Jeffrey Combs, Dwayne Johnson, and other notables. TRANSFORMERS PRIME is produced by Hasbro Studios. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Kline are executive producers. Kurtzman and Orci served as writers for the feature films TRANSFORMERS and TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen.

I hope Darkness Rising comes with the season 1 box set. Or, even better, they include all the seasons in one box set.

I doubt Hasbro will be that kind to us fans for releasing the 5-part series with season 1. I have a feeling we will have to wait until 2012 for season 1 on dvd, let alone - a box set.

Not having cable (or a TV), I already own all the (available) episodes in HD via iTunes, plus the "Behind the Scenes" bit so I'll wait… >:oP

can someone explain to me what all of this is. I have not seen one episode of the prime series but eventually want to get it on dvd to watch. Is this the same thing? I noticed from the comments that people are asking if this would be included with season one? I know season one of transformers prime has like 26-27 episodes. Any clarity would be great, and thanks for any help.

Darkness Rising is just the first five episodes of TF: Prime. Like back in the day when new TV series would have a 2-hour movie "pilot". If you have iTunes the first episode is still free, that's where they got me hooked. I honestly thought it was gonna be a 3D version of TFA (which I personally find an abomination) and put off watching it til last month. Immediately after watching it I bought the whole season on iTunes and marathoned it.

figured they woulda done this earlier to help promote the show.

at this point we should be getting a complete season 1 collection. the fact the season isnt done airing shouldnt be an issue as there have been mutiple shows over the years that release a complete season mere days or weeks after a season is finished.

of course being a kids show, i fear this will follow the ultra annoying trend of releasing volume sets with just 5 or 6 episodes each. some shows eventually put it together as a full season set but others never do. so as that other person said, doubt we'll see a season 1 collection before 2012.

and considering this airs in widescreen and HD in some places, i am surprised there isnt a blu-ray release. i bet this show looks gorgeous in HD. (canada only airs the SD one so i cant say)

I'm gonna guess that we'll get this Darkness Rising release, followed by a set of the rest of season 1, then a set of each of the following seasons, then a set of all episodes together in a complete series set.

"Promote the show"? Hasbro doesn't know the meaning of those words… they're pushing over a year to release the toys and let TeleToon one-up them on first-to-air episodes when they are showing it on THEIR OWN NETWORK… :BANG_HEAD:

TFA did the same thing. They released the pilot miniseries and then complete Season 1 & 2. No S3 though unfortunately.

There is a DVD coming with that set, but we don't know what's on that DVD yet. If it's anything like the Animated one, then it may just have the first one or two episodes only, and maybe one extra feature or something.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Prime/Megs set comes with a revised version of the Famous Battles DVD just to make Gary Chalk feel good? Wait even better the dvd will have all the special features that the Shout Factory should have as extra's on their release.

 Wow! :APPLAUSE:

Even though it's mostly just stock footage and a reuse of the poster image we saw, the lighting and shading effects use in this image manage to look very impressive.

Kinda reminds me of old Bionicle poster artwork, main characters and fan favs up front, more obscure chars (AKA The ones you love) in the back, and the bad guys looming WAY in the back.

Just the first five episodes on DVD in full screen? Screw that crap. I'll wait for the full season on Blu-ray in glorious high definition.
