Autobot Symbol in TF Prime

I just noticed something...in the story of Orion Pax (told by Ratchet) there's a shot of Megatronus, the gladiator, in front of a huge crowd...and on the left of the screen, you can see an Autobot symbol on a far wall....did those exist then? The way the story is told, that shot seems like it exists before Orion and Megatronus meet...

It could be both Symbols pre-date the factions that adopted them in the war.

For example, the symbol of the Nazi Party, the Swastika, dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization of Ancient India

Interresting theory. Perhaps what is now the Autobot symbol was the equivalent of a Cybertronian flag. Since the 'cons where all about a "new order", it would make sense that the faction which became the Autobots adopt the marking of the "old order" by opposition.

I mean, Megatron clearly intended to turn the entire political system upside down from the looks of it, as he is clearly reffered as a revolutionary. Thus the Cybertronian supporting the old guard would adopt such symbols as marking.

Interesting. I would think that all TF's were Autobots at first and then when Megatron walked out on the establishment, he picked up a new symbol.

in reality the issue of what they were originally is continuity specific.

in the G1 toon continuity they were the equivalent of 2 races.
In the new continuity family, they can be seen to be seen as up too 13 races, since they are all decedents of each individual Prime.

In the way to book told the story, they were merely all referred to as "Cybertronians" before the war factions sprang up. Orion Pax coined the name "Autobots" as the name for his "Autonomous Robots" movement, while the term "Decepticon" came up around the same time. So, there weren't all "Autobots" before the Decepticon term came into being, but merely "Cybertronians".

Even after the war ended on Cybertron, some otherworlders even still saw them as "Cybertronians", not knowing of any "Autobot" term. ;)

Wasn't it in G1 where the Decepticon symbol is meant to be something of a perversion of the Autobot/Cybertronian symbol? Maybe it's something along those lines...

What makes it confusing is how much Aligned is taking from Megatron Origins without adopting it whole hog. (And the comics seem to be swinging closer to Aligned anyway in the lead up to Chaos Theory) In Megatron Origins the Autobots way predate the Decepticons, and the Autobot symbol is intentionally presented as a symbol of oppression and corruption, like when those guards flash it right before beating a bunch of miners to death.

Seeing the Autobot symbol in the gladiator pit is maybe supposed to evoke the same thing, but it contradicts what happens in Exodus when Prime coins the term himself.

Blarg Aligned my aft...

Tangental is more like it.

Well, maybe it was merely the symbol of the Cybertronian race itself, designed in homage to the visage of Vector Prime. After all, Exodus did say that Sentinel Zeta Prime wore a belt adorned by sigil of Vector Prime on it.
