Sad story of Bill Mantlo, Transformers comic writer

Over the past couple of days, I've been reading articles on Bill Mantlo. He wrote a lot of Marvel comics in the 1970's and 1980's. In 1992, he was hit by a car and has been in institutional care ever since.

Over the past few months, I've been reading older comics and noticed his name on books like Amazing Spider-Man: The Origin of Hobgoblin. I then realized he plotted the first two issues of Marvel's Transformers comics with Marvel editor Ralph Macchio. I always thought Bob Budiansky wrote the early ones.

It's a heartbreaking story.

He did, but only from #5. Others were involved in the first four issues, which were originally intended to be a miniseries only.

Couldn't even finish reading it. How horrible. No one deserves that.
