Has anyone compared this DVD set to the fansub released by TV-Nihon a few years ago?

I basically want to know if it is worth ripping the DVD set and using it instead (at a cost of approx 1gb per ep vs approx 250mb per ep). :???:

I should've figured as much. I mean, I can see Hasbro wanting to use the Americanized names, but to go that far with it.... oh well. I guess the DVD set will stay shrink wrapped on my shelf and I'll keep the tv-nihon subs on my dvr.

Than for the link/post. It was the exact info I was looking for!!

From what I can tell, it looks like Hasbro/Shout! Factory took the subtitle scripts from the Metrodome and Madman DVDs, made whatever necessary corrections to fix spelling/grammar errors there were in the subtitles, and then made the unnecessary meddling changes to the subs that altered the meaning of the Japanese dialogue. >:oP

It seems that all three subbed version of the JG1 cartoons have some flaws of their own:

TV-Nihon - some of the translations were a little too literal
Metrodome and Madman - The Headmasters had a few spelling and grammar issues here and there
Shout! Factory - subtitle scripts Americanized and altered to not fully mean match the dialogue
