What is with the hate for Regeneration One?

Alright guys, I read many Transformers forums and what I cannot stand is the hate that Furman is getting over Regeneration One. Heck, even on his own blog, someone told him off about how much Regeneration One blows.

I mean this is the lowest of the low and the tf community is better than this... but maybe not. Regeneration One is probably the best of the current IDW offerings in my opinion. I know everyone is excited for More than Meets the Eye, but that is just a fluffy fanwanky comic. Its like Animated. I love Animated, but we all know that it was aimed to be fanwanky rather than develop characters or move the plot. Look at what Roberts did to Ultra Magnus for instance. I am using this as an example of being able to make any comic look bad that I don't like.

So, I mean that we can critique or demean any comic by throwing out useless phrases (mostly using stupid ideas on TV Tropes). The plot is advancing in Regeneration One. I hate the claim 'nothing happens' being spouted off left and right.

We should be fortunate enough to live in a golden age of Transformer comics and media. Furman, Roberts and Barber are all great writers. Furman of course inspires the other two and the other two take the football that he moved and move it more. Anyways, I have more sour grapes about this, but I want to hear what Seibertron has to say about this.

I dunno, personally I love regen 1 as i hated how abruptly the original series ended with issue 80... Too many things were hurried. Now I am not happy that Springer was killed...

We're in a different era of Transformers. The fans of the Marvel TF comics are obviously going to love this, but I guess when it comes to the newer fans, they have a hard time adjusting to the old art style. By all means, I think it is still a great story, featuring great art, but much like anything else, it is hard to please everyone. MTMTE and RID have their fair share of haters too

I hate all the claims of Furman 'half assing' this. It is ridiculous.

I love the original G1 Marvel comics, it's what made me a TF fan. To this day there isn't a better single continuity as far as story goes. There just isn't. Beast Wars comes close, with season 2 and 3, but otherwise, the rest are a notch or 2 below. Some even more.

As for ReGeneration, I was looking forward to it very much. The art is beautiful. I never cared for the newer style of art, that's a big reason i don't care for iDW. I liked DW, but I haven't kept up with TF comics since 2005, until ReGen came around. Going from issue to issue, ReGen seems slow and somewhat hollow. There's not much in each issue. I recently got the TPB of the Loose Ends story, and read it from cover to cover. It was a better story to be read all at once. But otherwise, each issue by itself doesn't hold my attention as well. Not like the old issues used to. And it's not because I was younger, because once a year or every other year, I re-read all 80 issues of the G1 story, as well as the Headmasters miniseries. It still reads better than anything else out there.

I think Furman has lost a step compared to 20 years ago, at least when it comes to ReGeneration. I haven't really read anything else from him in a while, so I don't know if he knocks it out of the park with other stuff. It's still adequate, but by no means does it compare to the original. But, not many things do.

Rodimus, thanks for the reply. I think that Furman is trying to marry old and new school and this is why people are saying Furman is 'losing his edge'. You are right about the Loose Ends arc. Taken individually, the story seems to be lagging, but when combined together it is very seamless and action packed.

I literally argued with people about the fact that since we are having a Scorponok vs Grimlock battle that this is Maximum Dinobots all over again. This isn't Maximum Dinobots! Also, I love that they wanted to restrict Furman from using his two signature characters: Scorponok, who actually survived by being a head in the Headmasters miniseries and Grimlock. If Furman ever uses those two, BAM it is Maximum Dinobots for some unknown reason. Shockwave has nothing to do with Natural Selection whatsoever.

Yeah, Max Dinos was kinda disappointing. I was expecting just that: maximum Dinobots. Ass-kicking galore. The best part of that whole series (for me anyway) was when Scorponok broke Hot Rod's leg. So I was let down there. Natural Selection should be different, and Shockwave has nothing to do with it. If he ever becomes independent of the Ark again, it will be in the next arc. Anyway, I'm getting used to Furman's way of going through the story, but I will be of the opinion that ReGen is a shadow of the original until my dying day. Doesn't mean it's bad, just means it's not as good. I am glad that some of the story lines are getting a proper finish.

And CB, I think Springer getting offed is 1 of the highlights of the series so far. I never liked that character. good riddance. :P Now, if only my dream came true where the Dinobots face off with and obliterate the Wreckers, I'd be a happy, happy GEEWUNNER.

Revelation and Maximum Dinobots both suffer from IDW truncating his run in the IDWverse and introducing McCarthy. Maximum Dinobots isn't perfect but it is a great ride. We get some Monsterbot action and several other cool things. I personally blame IDW and not Furman for that.

I think that the next 3 issues will bring it up to par with the original series. All the set up has happened. Let the action begin. UNICRON!!!
