Just a Question...

So, hypothetically speaking, if I wanted to watch the old animes Masterforce or Victory, where could I find English dubbed (or subbed) episodes (on YouTube or other video-sharing sites), if there were any made?

I don't think there was a official English dub but there is a few episodes with an English sub laying around on YouTube episode 1 (Part 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HD9w1w6Df5w

(Part 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwF01H8wIPI

Both of them (as well as The Headmasters) are available on DVD from Shout! Factory (in the U.S.), Metrodome (in the UK) and Madman Entertainment (in Australia). All subtitled.

They were also fansubbed by TV-Nihon, who have since taken down their downloadable subbed releases of each due to Shout! acquiring the license to each. YouTube still has their subbed versions, though.

This playlist has all of Masterforce fansubbed by TV-Nihon - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL66D66C9F08CB5231

This playlist has all of Victory (minus its clip shows) fansubbed - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0D6A66300DF61DCE

However, TV-Nihon did fansub the few clip shows that were televised in Japan for both series, but not all of them seem to be on YouTube (most I can find are only two of them).

TV-Nihon also fansubbed The Headmasters, but a large amount of episodes seem to have disappeared from YouTube.

All three Japanese G1 cartoons were dubbed into English officially... in Malaysia. The end result was a dub so painfully, hilariously bad that it's only worth as a much as a drinking game.

Ah I thought that was a fan dub.
Though, there have been some fandubs too, but none of them completed any of the whole series.

While not entirly complete (at least not the last time I checked) TFCog had a good majority of Victory fandubbed. It's quite enjoyable.

I used to give TFCog a chance with their fandubs, but after having seen the originals and seeing all the changes TFCog made (changed names, rewritten dialogue, music from other TF/non-TF cartoons, etc.), I don't enjoy their work anymore. :-|

While I agree that TFCog's work isn't perfect, I still find their work good to watch, and to be more bearable than the Malaysian dub, even having watched (and owning) the original Subbed release.

I still prefer the original Japanese versions for their better, more passionate and emotive acting breathing life in the characters best of all. 8)
