Wait - Arcee, who is a total badass in these comics, was offended by Slag's name? I mean, I get that they want to be politically correct, but...that was kinda disappointing. I'd have been more OK if they just kinda shoe-horned the name change in, with the least amount of attention brought to it. At the very least, why not have a more sensitive character call it out as offensive? Chromedome comes to mind, or even Rung. Cyclonus even, with his old-school honorable ways.

Am I just being too picky here? Coz if I am, I'll stop.

Well, with Arcee being the only female character around, it makes sense for her to call him out on it, as it is used as a derogatory term for women. :-?

I find the way they presented Slag's name change to be...amusing.

Well, from the way he phrased it, she didn't call him out on it being offensive to her specifically, but more of a broad term, it being possibly offensive to other women.

Speculation, of course.

Alright, I had to look on dictionary.com. Slag is apparently British slang for an abusive woman. You have to scroll down the page a bit to find it: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/slag?s=t

I had no idea :-?

I had no idea as well but after seeing that definition I find it hilarious that Arcee, having perhaps a higher body count in these comics then... well, EVERYONE ELSE, would be the one chosen to bring this up. She shoots straight past abusive and into the realm of homicidal.

Anywho... I just picked up DC-5 today and was happy to see the pace pick up a bit after the anti-climactic DC-4 and I'm guessing that number 5 may bring us closer to discovering which of the big-names bite it. Since our options were Orion, 'Bee, Magnus or Prowl and obviously Prowl made it out of Shockwaves base but he said 'Bee (among others) didn't make it out, then our options are down to 3. Can't go into any in-depth theorizing without throwing out possible spoilers but logic dictates that given the scenario the other characters were in, Goldbug/Bumblebee is finally taking a dirt nap. Can't say as I'm disappointed. He sucked as a leader anyways although he did have his moments. Anyone with the stones to basically tell the Dinobots to shut-up and fight or get the hell off the battlefield certainly deserves some acknowledgement.
The sad part is that now I have a whole month to wait to have any kind of answers as to who made it out and who didn't.

Actually, the 'abusive' is part of what the word means in a non personal context ('to slag someone off'). When directed at a woman, it's yet another term for 'promiscuous'.

From the Oxford English Dictionary:

(e) A prostitute or promiscuous woman; a slattern.

Usage:
1958 N.Z. Listener 10 Oct. 6/3 A ‘slag’ is a white girl who lives with or is friendly with coloured people of either sex.
1959 Streetwalker iv. 87 It's my pride he hurts, with his little slags.
1966 New Statesman 23 Dec. 934/2 You have to wear glasses these days if you don't want to be called a slag.
1970 ‘D. Craig’ Young Men may Die x. 72 Does anyone care what happens to a slag?
1973 J. Seabrook Loneliness 185, I went out with a girl called Angie, who was really a bit of a slag.

Thank you for the enlightenment. I'm not familiar with the the word "slag" in that context. Those examples seem pretty dated, but I'm no expert on which slang is in right now.

It's still used commonly today. I have students who use it in quite an aggressive and hateful way (I work with at-risk/marginalised teens). With the context in which they use it I would put it up there in the same league as words used to abuse gay people or ethnic people etc.
