TRANSFORMERS LEGACY: A CELEBRATION OF TRANSFORMERS PACKAGE ART

Jim Sorenson, Bill Forster (w)

Remember the thrill of tearing open the wrapping on Christmas morning, discovering a brand new TRANSFORMERS toy in a shiny new box? While the toys were amazing in their own right, what made the packages stand head-and-shoulders above the competing action figures on shelves was the stunning box art. Transformers: Legacy collects hundreds of beautifully airbrushed paintings from the iconic first decade of The Transformers. Essays and interviews from the original illustrators give unprecedented insight into the process behind the art. This book is chocked full of extras, including never before seen artwork from toys that never were, original design sketches, catalog artwork, and more.

300 pages, $49.99.

Bullet points:

• The Transformers art book that you've been waiting for all these years! From the archives of Hasbro, Takara and private collectors!

Autobot Megatron, Wha?????

And that Windburn TF that the fans supposedly created is goofy looking. That is the best we could come up with? That's embarrassing.....definitely skipping the Generations toy. There is no way an alien from a planet millions of light years away is going to chose the ascetic look of a female Japanese warrior. I mean come on.

Hey Sabrblade, you read the comics regularly. What is the deal with this Autobot Megatron stuff?

I'm not that far yet.

And nobody knows yet. These teasers are farther ahead from where even the comics currently are.

Autobot Megatron huh?

OMG if Megatron is going to be on the Lost Light with the rest of the crew then OOOOOOOOOOOOH BOY! I smell a SITCOM!

Though, sadly, I do beleive this HAS to be some sort of sick trick Megatron has planned for something. We all remember what happened when he surrendered himself back around Chaos, right? Ya, that lasted a few issues...

I can't stop thinking of exciting possibilities with Megatron joining MTMTE. I really want Whirl, Rodimus, and Swerve to survive Dark Cybertron now so we can see their interactions with him. I also want to see the DJD come after Megs for betraying his own cause.

Gee, thanks, it's not as if I live on the internet to churn out comics news regularly. :-(

It was already pretty much Red Dwarf but with robots ;-)

Ah yes, I can smell a future TFCC toy already:

SHATTERED-GLASS AUTOBOT-MEGATRON!

It's like Bizarro-Venom meets reverse-polarity Mumm-Rana!

Not Earth again. No more humans in Transformers, why would any transformer want to go back there given the last time, unless it was for revenge

It does talk about a 'terrifying secret'. :-?

(Which probably means they have figured out how to add even more pineapple on pizza.)

Nuke the entire Solar System.

So Megatron leads the Lost Light's quest now? Guess that means Rodimus bites it then.

I really want to see Megatron get hammered together with Wirl, Rung, and Trailcutter now, with Ultra Magnus watching his every step like a hawk, twitching and getting all giddy at the thought of Megatron making one mistake so he can punch him into dust.

Honestly I wouldn't mind going back to Earth in the series, would definitely tie some loose ends. I have a feeling Spike will return and may possibly be part of the threat. Also, been awhile since we heard from Thundercracker. I don't recall if he ever left Earth.

Spike = part of the threat, calling it.

Wouldn't a "Shattered Glass Autobot Megatron" still be evil? :P

Man, reading you all talking about the books makes me want to start reading them. I read all the ones with the Generations Bots and they were pretty good. Could I jump on without being too confused?

Yes and no. I would always recommend getting in at one of the 'starting points'. But there is still a lot of work that happened in previous parts of the series that might matter and change things.

Definitely recommended though, if you liked the Spotlights, everything MTMTE and RID up to Dark Cybertron, go for the trades. That's 5 volumes each.

If you can, Last Stand of the Wreckers will give you a feel for what MTMTE is trying to do, as well.

I did like the spotlights so I will have to do that. Let me ask, and this doesn't spoil anything for me, who has appeared and died so far in the series? The article said the Autobot Megatron book was a good jump on point, so I think I will start there with the most current run. Thanks, I appreciate the info! :D

Given I'm not particularly interested in reading a polemic on how we are all misogynists for liking genderless robots, Wingblade for me is DOA. I'm also having trouble believing that there is more good material to mine on Earth, especially as such effort has been made in the past to make it clear that humans don't want transformers around and don't need help in dealing with the occasional Decepticon that gets stuck there. A pity that they didn't decide to go to another planet, even Nebulos, which had a higher tech humanoid population and none of the back-story baggage. As for the death of Rodimus - lets face it, who stays dead in these comics anyway?

Yes, who is dead in the comics? Besides Dreadwing, assuming the shot in the back Shockwave gave him in his spotlight comic killed him? And Sunstreaker who was, I believe, killed in the Hoist book. That one sucked because it was a hologram or something, but it really killed Sunstreaker?

If we're talking A-list characters, not too many. C-Z listers, it's a pretty large list. As an example, off the top of my head, Scrapper, Ramjet and Thrust have been dead for quite some time now, years actually.

There are a few others... more recently.

Ratbat, Sunstorm, and Bombshell are probably the most recent examples. It's also a bit unclear if any other Insecticons (aside from Bob) are still alive.

... :BANG_HEAD:

I'm going to give Scott a chance here, and might read the issue if the Wingblade toy turns out better than I'm currently expecting. Other than that I have no interest in this at all.
