I'll edit in case. :)

I haven't seen it myself, but I've seen TFWiki refer to the figure as Afterbreaker on Twitter and apparently the April/May club mag does as well. Possible the name Afterburner was unavailable and had to be renamed. Still better than some of replacement names we've seen recently.

And better than "Afterblast"

The Transformers club is getting GI Joes. The GI Joe club is getting Transformers. The Botcon set is getting lame SG repaints mixed in with G1, Beast Wars, and who knows what else ? Did Funpub relocate from Texas to Colorado ? They sure are smoking some good s**t lately.

The name "Afterbreaker" appeared in both the latest TCC magazine issue and on the Collectors Club Twitter. It seems they tried to use the "Afterburner" name at first, but couldn't, and so went for an alternative.

Afterbreaker doesn't roll off the tongue very well. It sounds too fragmented and makes little sense. The two words don't sound well together BUT.....it is what it is.

That hair is killing me. Either she has vast quantities of hair spray or she has a constant gale hitting her from her right side.

The real problem is the fandom actually acknowledges these silly name changes done for legal reasons. :BANG_HEAD:

If John Smith in New York cant sue Mrs. Smith in Florida for naming her newborn son John, what makes fictional characters names any different ? As silly as it sounds, I can legally name my child "Afterburner".

It's a freakin word ! Unless another company has already produced a transformable robot toy named "Afterburner" there should be no basis for a lawsuit. Funpub shouldn't be scared of "Afterburner Tampons" or "Afterburner Personal Lubricant" or whoever was the last company to print the word "Afterburner" on a cardboard box.

Trademarks work a bit differently than that. Put short, the fact they changed his name means that:

a.) another toy company has gotten hold of the name, thus are the only ones allowed to use it. Doesn't matter what kind of toy, it's still in the same category as Transformers is. Your examples would actually be perfectly legal as they fall in different categories, but that may eventually lead to scenario b.
b.) being a common word in every day use (it's an engine component), the word may have become "generic", meaning it has no more distinguishable market value. Such words can no longer be trademarked and some have fallen victim to it.

On the flipside, it could simply be Hasbro's desire to keep "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" names separate, since this is still a G.I. Joe-based set. That's supposedly the main reason why Gen. Junkyard was renamed "Junkheap", as there's a "Junkyard" in G.I. Joe. and the name is more closely associated with that line.

I heard that they try not to release the same characters that may feature in the main lines but I'd be surprised if a combiner wars afterburner was to appear so I don't think its the case here. Anyway if it doesn't transform probably better that they didn't use afterburner's name.

I joined the TFCC for this figure. I want her SO badly. How do subscribers know when she's up for pre-order, an e-mail? I got one for another exclusive. Sorry, I just don't wanna miss out on Marissa.

They'll email us when it's available.

Or another member who got the email before others will announce it to the rest of the fandom first.

I think you're safe since a LOT of fans previous decried this set for being a G.I. Joe with a Transformer that doesn't transform.

The club doesn't seem to be helping that out. I finally got my magazine in the mail and the ad for the set doesn't even name Afterbreaker. It simply says "Marissa Fairborn 4" figure comes with motorcycle, weapon, and jetpack on a blister card with character file card". Poor Afterbreaker has been downgraded to simply being an unnamed motorcycle rather than a character.

Never draw attention to the hair! This is obviously a holomatter avatar.

Legit thanks for the assurances. But still, just nervous because I've never bought anything from the Club. So with my lukc I'd screw something up. And you never know if it'll sell out or not.

I so hope Spike, Sparkplug, Chip and Carly get made, too. They SO deserve some love.

if you just want 1 figure, it'd be cheaper to get it from the aftermarket than paying for every subscription figure just to get it

We've seen the video reveal of the fourth BotCon 2015 exclusive box set Boss figure, we've seen a preview of the comic featuring it - why not take a look at our galleries showing off both the main dish and the sides? Check out below the big bad himself (in one incarnation), using the Transformers Prime Silas Breakdown mold, never available in the US until now: Megatron - and the microns Scalpel, Boombox and Heavyweight! For all the grief i've given the figures, i can safely say thus far, all of the botcon 2015 box figures, in my opinion have been okay. Heck, it's more than okay, it's adequately satisfactory. But that's the problem, these figure to me feel average unspectacular even. I find the problem I have is there's no direction, and yes I know the lack of direction is the direction, but that doesn't work unless of course the Boxset was meant to be Dada as all hell, but even then it doesn't go far enough. It really feels these should be TFSS figures instead of a boxset. Now Oilmaster might change that seeing as it's supposed to be better than 2014's scorponok, but as Scotty P said, this side of releasing a unproduced mold, it might be fun but it won't really be the end all be all of club exclusives. Now the polybag figures are probably going to be great, I always find that a weak boxset has great companion pieces.

Yea, this is thoroughly unremarkable.

A sort-of homage to movie 3 Megatron has no use in my collection.

I already have a movie-accurate voyager version of that character, and lots of versions of CHUG Megatron to choose from.

While the deco itself looks very nice, I would have no place to display this figure.
I'm certainly not interested in paying exclusive prices for it.

I sure am glad I'm one of the few who doesn't collect CHUG for the sake of a CHUG collection. This figure will be for me what it is, and can/will go wherever I want it to go.

Thinking about it more - Megatron is an excellent Botcon figure - a limited edition recolour of a mold that was never even released in the 'States. It really doesn't get much more exclusive than that, save for actually doing an entirely new figure.

The chrome bumper and 'fixed' head kinda defeat the whole homage. And one of those Minicons should've been Igor. Really, it feels like like they had an awesome idea going but then just HAD to go "G1" with a bunch of things...

This Megatron could work as another
character in a classics collection besides Megatron?

Sure, he is a very nice redeco of the Silas Breakdown
mold, but seriously... Megatron??

The boxset itself was very nice with Packrat and
BattleTrap... Stepper was... Meh... and The Hobo without
a shotgun... It's a very weird Boxset...

I hope the last figure in the Boxset would be
a retool of windblade... Lyzack, perhaps?
