The Planet SEIBERTRON You Knew ... Is Gone

First came the fractures.

A world built on 25 years of shifting code and fading systems began to destabilize. Pages glitched, portals collapsed, and the core dimmed. The pulse that powered everything was nearly gone. It's the end of the world as you knew it.

But something had been stirring beneath the surface.

An energy unlike anything before raced through the system. Unstable, radiant, alive. It surged through broken pathways and dormant circuits, accelerating toward the core.

When it made contact, the planet lit up.

This wasn’t a reboot. It was a reformatting. A complete evolution, powered by a new energy source: Super Energon fused with Seibertronium.

It didn’t just restart the world. It transformed it.

Welcome to the Silver Age of SEIBERTRON™

Image

Today's is the official 25th anniversary of Seibertron.com. To celebrate, we've officially unveiled the new version of Seibertron.com.

The new site is faster, smarter, and fully operational across every device. It’s been streamlined, optimized, and rebuilt from the inside out. I'm still hard at work on the code and have some exciting features that are coming down the pipes that are still in development. There are definitely some minor Insecticons and Kremzeeks to be found, however, just FYI.

For the past 106 days, I’ve been deep in the code working 80 to 100 hour weeks. Fixing 503s. Tracking down 404s. Fighting off Kremzeeks. Working inside of Teletraan 1. Fixing Space Bridges. Fine tuning power core reactors. Refactoring thousands of files without taking the system offline (though there were some growing pain along the way). This is the biggest transformation in Seibertron.com history.

You’ll see changes across the board—from layout and performance to how the entire site functions. Some of it may feel familiar, but nearly everything has evolved. I’ll be rolling out more updates as we keep pushing forward.

But one thing hasn’t changed.

The friendships. The community. The spark that never faded. That’s what powers SEIBERTRON—and why it’s still the planet Transformers fans call home.

If something feels off or you’re not ready for the new look, hit the "CONVERT" button in the top right. The Golden Age version is still online.

This is only the beginning. Stay tuned for more.

SEIBERTRON™
Your planet for everything Transformers.

Well I have to say, so far so good. Also, 25 years? I'm not that old. I mean sure I just turned 46 but still!

He's being modest with 106 days y'all. That was just the final home stretch. This has been in the prep stages and been simmering for years. Really awesome to see things finally get that long awaited update. Congrats on 25 and the new layout, big bot!

Thanks Scott. I appreciate that. Yah, I started a redesign back in 2015 or 2016. Switched gears in 2017. Worked on it a bit in late 2018. Switch gears again in 2019. And then in 2022. I think I came up with 3 or 4 different versions of the site but never launched them because I was just not at the right place to figure it all out at the time. I have been using elements from the 2019 redesign in this new version, so I'm happy to see ideas that have been percolating for years come to life finally.

The "taglines" at the top of the page was from a redesign I had planned way back around 2011 or 2012 (or maybe I had implemented at one point or another during one of the short lived versions of Seibertron pre-the version that was around for 10+ years). Edit: I was just looking back at the screen captures of previous versions of Seibertron. I first implemented the taglines in a version of Seibertron way back in 2006 or 2007 (the design after the 2005 "G1 box" version of Seibertron). I'm planning on doing a "history of SEIBERTRON" page that has a gallery of previous versions of this site but haven't had time to put it together yet.

Here's a sneak peak of the "SEIBERTRON That Never Was ..." that I worked on between 2018 to 2022, but unfortunately never finished it. It was my first attempt at using Bootstrap but the site's structure but I found it really challenging at the time to properly utilize all of the classes that were available in Bootstraps stylesheets. The code I wrote is functional but I never was satisfied with how the interior pages worked and felt very overwhelmed with redoing so much of SEIBERTRON's codebase.

It appears really good, Seibertron. You should feel proud! I have a little bit of an idea of the challenges involved with overhauling the web site, and you surmounted the hardest. Give those Kremzeek and Insecticon buggers their well-deserved zaps. 😊

The design is hitting my already overactive nostalgia button. Well done. I genuinely love it.

Either is fine. What is the problem you are experiencing?

When I open the page on mobile, I get the top banner then a massive ad. Always more ads than content. Feels like I have to go down half a page to get to anything. Also, part of the hmw stuff either shows up outside of the screen or near the bottom of the page. When I convert, it's all fine again. Still loving the overall redesign. Youve done great work in my many years on here

I think i fixed the ad on the homepage last night. If its still not working for you, please provide a screenshot.

As for HMW, if there is a page that looks broken, please provide the URL or take a screenshot of that to help me locate and debug the issue.

Thanks.

Oh WOW I stopped by the site today and was immediately gobsmacked, this is the first time this site has looked different since I started using it back in like 2008! So cool!
I used to visit every day, then the quality of the news fell off so I've visited less over the past year, but hopefully things will improve with this change :)

Cheetron, I truly appreciate you reaching out to me about the issues and will take into consideration how to handle things going forward. I also greatly appreciate that you have been a member of SEIBERTRON for so long. It's crazy that it has been that long for all of us.

I fixed the news article "view" issue. Just to be transparent ... the "convert" feature is temporary while we work out bugs on the new site. I do not have any plans on continuing to maintain the old site. If you guys are using the "convert" feature, it is a temporary thing because I do not have time to maintain the old version of the site as well as the new version. At some point we've got to cut the cord.

However (and on that note), I am aware that there are a lot of little bugs with the new site so until all of those are resolved I WILL continue fixing issues that are preventing users from viewing the old version of the site in a usable format. For example, the Sightings section most likely doesn't work or display that great on the old version of the site at this point because all of the changes I made to that section overwrote the old code. I was so happy with how the new pages turned out after being stagnant for 15 to 20 years, that I think it's just time to say goodbye to the old code and work with the new.

HMW is also on the list of things that need my attention but so does the Sightings section and other areas. HMW is an integral part of Seibertron and it will get my love as time allows here in the next few weeks. It is very time consuming to go through the old pages one-by-one to update them for the new style AND also add modern functionality to old code now that we have a modern Bootstrap based website. It provides a whole slew of new toys for me to play with when updating the old site and pages so it's taking some time because I don't just want to "update" a page just so it looks "proper", I want to give you guys something better than what we had before.

The large ad at the top is here to stay on mobile for now. I'll probably change it up at some point, but that's not a bug ... there's a large ad in the first "screen" of the site that you see along with the logo and navigation, just like there is on a ton of other major websites out there. I know it's not ideal and i'm not sure what I think of it either, but it is "standard" behavior for many websites these days. I agree it is not ideal. If any of you want to provide screenshots of how ads work on other major websites that you visit (particularly header ads), please feel free to share that with me (or provide links to those sites).
