I picked mine up Saturday. He looks really cool. The only question I have is why is the logo on the front a Decepticon logo and not Autobot?

Right? It doesn't even mention Transformers at all outside of the logo (which chopped off the trademark). I'm also a little surprised that there's no mention of Hasbro licensing anywhere on the box when it's all over the website. Really strange, a little shocked Hasbro let them get away with that.

Here is a picture of the bottom :)

Ah, ok, that's a little better, though I'm still a little surprised to see the Hasbro logo isn't somewhere obvious like the bottom corner of the box. I guess that's the difference between being the licensor and licensee.

That aside, I don't see a problem with this being an ornament. It's based on a toy, kids open toys on Christmas, sounds like a fit to me.

You will remember the Hallmark ornaments from previous years, such as Grimlock - we now have news of the 2017 edition, Soundwave, thanks to fellow Seibertronian zebanshee! Release date is July 15 2017, and it joins 2014's Optimus Prime, 2015's Megatron, and 2016's Grimlock. Check it out below.

Hmmm. The Grimlock ornament was cute and had its own unique little chibi style going for it, but in this case I'm not entirely sure what would make this attractive over just straight-up buying the actual G1 toy. Or maybe he's Titan Class-priced on Ebay by now, I dunno.

They make great little statues for G1 nostalgia.

And if you patrol Hallmark stores after Christmas, these things go for half price. I only have Grimlock, and that's how I bought him.

(I'm also not sure how Grimlock was "chibi." It seemed like a very faithful reproduction of the toy to me...just much smaller.)

I dont get it, the Grimlock one was just his G1 toy made smaller. If he looked chibi to you, then that just means the original G1 would look chibi to you too:

Without me telling you, would you know that was a pic of the G1 toy and not the ornament?

Soundwave is the same. And I dont know why we are better off buying the G1 one instead when this just serves as an ornament on a tree and doesnt transform. I wouldnt put G1 soundwave in my Christmas tree, but I would put this cute ornament instead.

Same reason the Lionel ornaments are almost always the first to go, even though most trees have an actual train encircling them. People get them because they represent a love of something, or a gift to someone who loved something. Most of the otnaments in my family's tree are either 1)things we love, or 2) of or from family. In this case, G1. You can't (easily) hang G1 Soundwave on a tree, and ehy would you? This is much easier.

Edit: but it occurs to me the distinction here might be in a difference to each person's particular traditions over the holiday

This is true. For example, I don't hang "franchise" ornaments on our tree anymore. I prefer more traditional decorations. But I still have a number of these kinds of ornaments in my personal collection.

Hallmark Transformers G1 Soundwave Ornament Spotted At Retail!

Just in time for Christmas in July, Hallmark stores are starting to carry the G1 Soundwave Ornament. Our very own news staffer Bronzewolf was kind enough to send us a few pictures of the ornament. From them we can see the front and back of this well detailed ornament. It also appears to be sold for $15.95 in store. If you spot any new figures or merch, be sure to let us know!

If you enjoy this holiday ornament, have a look at the G1 Grimlock ornament from last year!

That really looks like it can transform, but so did the grimlock.

This is news? I picked mine up 2 weeks ago. I'd've posted something.

Sorry for the blurry photos, folks. I had to take a quick picture as the Hallmark I was at was closing for the night.
By the way:
No, it doesn't transform,
No, it doesn't have any articulation,
No, Laserbeak doesn't pop out in any way, although it looks like he is a separate piece, not sculpted into his chest/just painted on. Perhaps a gimmick that was never fully realised? :-?

Hallmark Hot Rod and Optimus Prime Ornaments Found at Retail (Plus Packaging Variant)

PostPosted: Sun Nov 12, 2017 10:13 pm
by Qwan
It's been a while since we last had word of Hallmark's Transformers-themed Christmas ornaments for this year - Hot Rod was found on Walmart's website and Optimus Prime was available for a reduced price on JCPenney's site, both in late September. Now we have not only word of the two appearing at brick-and-mortar retail stores, but also of what seems to be a packaging variant for the Optimus Prime ornament!

Tips from Seibertronians cdavid3 and Bounti76 on November 4th alerted us to the presence of these ornaments on store shelves, but another photo from autobot00 shows us perhaps the more interesting note in all this: the Optimus ornaments appears to have two different sets of potential packaging. Whereas the pictures shared by cdavid3 and Bounti76 show the box to have The Last Knight branding and a stock image of Optimus Prime from the new live-action film (much like the Hot Rod ornament's own packaging), autobot00's instead present a version of the box with the Generation 1-styled logo and a stock image of G1 Optimus Prime. The ornaments appear to be otherwise identical, meaning that there's no cause for concern if you just want the thing itself, but oddities like this are always worth noting.

Have you seen any of these ornaments on shelves at retail stores? Have you, perchance, seen both variants of Optimus - and if you have, did you notice any differences between the two aside from the logo and stock image? Share your thoughts, and as always keep watching Seibertron.com for any future Transformers news - big, small or just plain odd!

You got me excited when you said "Hot Rod" ornament... then I saw it was a movie version. :-(

Oh well, good for those who want it, I guess.

Yeah, sorry man. I'm sure we'll get a G1-styled one eventually though, if the trend keeps up of having two Transformers ornaments a year, so... optimism! I guess.

There are at least 3 variants of the Optimus Prime packaging.

Target has the same Hallmark ornament in a hanging card without a box and with the G1 Prime artwork.

Hate that I missed out on the first Hallmark G1 Optimus, so I guess the Target one will make an acceptable substitute. Just gotta find one with good eye-paint...
