Well I been to 4 Botcons. How many have you been to buddy?

I also met your boss in person. Have you met him yet?

But seriously what?

(I'm not Burn but I have been to zero botcons but I still see myself as a fan even if I like the live action films)

Dude that response was exclusively for Burn.

Nobodys saying youre not a fan. I got no beef with you.

But when a guy who lives on the computer from the other side of the world says im not a true fan, I gotta question his dedication to the hobby.

There are people who've been to every Botcon. There are people who have nigh-absurd collections of nearly every TF ever. There are people who only buy Takara, some only Hasbro, and others still who only buy from third-party. Some only buy what they want, some only take what they can get. Some are adults, some are teenagers, some are just kids. And ya know what?

All of them are fans. There is no 'true' fan.

Irrelevant. My lack of attendance at Botcon does not make me any less of a fan than you.

Rated X wrote:I also met your boss in person. Have you met him yet?

Also irrelevant.

1 - Lives on the computer? Making this personal now?
2 - I never said you weren't a "true" fan, I just pointed out how stupid the concept of a "true" fan is.

You're either a fan, or you're not. There is no in-between. People who resort to this "true fan" **** do so to belittle others and make themselves seem self-important.

Holy ****, if there ever was a thread begging to be locked, this is it. But, since you directed this as a personal attack on Burn, and he has seen it and responded, I will let him handle it. For what it's worth I think the "true fan" label is baseless, ignorant and to use it in an attack or an argument is being a troll.

I also feel the term's ridiculous; simply used as a way to alienate others and be a bit elitist about your being a fan for some vague sense of self-worth.

Probably not what everyone uses it for since it's become so widespread, but from my pedestrian armchair psychology seat that seems to be the case to me.

I think it's annoying. If someone has to brag about being a true fan it comes of as a rude, insecure thing to do. I see this issue in other fan communities more than Transformers. Its not a competition to be a fan of something.

Plus it's really dumb to be hostile to other fans. It's wonderful to have others to share experiences with and enjoy the series together. I suppose there are always people who won't get along but it's smarter to just ignore them than start things. We should be building a better fan community, not fighting over our egos.

I don't like such fans, they tend to break down on me. My wife however is a fan of this kind of fan:

Slap an Autobot emblem on it and you win!

Oh if only the man who started all this would actually pop into this thread. Then he'll see what it takes to be the biggest TF fan!

I'm pretty impressed by this fan

Kind of a Geewunner though. I prefer smaller fans that provide a cool breeze to all TF universes.

Oh please don't misunderstand, I'm not one of those people. My fan may be average, but it gets the job done. :-D I'm just saying, some people like bigger fans, that's all. And if *they* get sore from being fanned, they are not doing it right. Or there's something wrong with their fans, in which case they should have it checked out immediately. >:oP

I guess that means BW Rampage fans need to get checked out? You know, because crabs.
