There seem to be rocks underneath.

Lithone was originally conceived as a rocky or marble planet in early drafts of the 1986 movie, with rocky organisms not unlike the Rock Lords from Gobots. That's even more noticeable in the names:

Lithone: from the Greek "lithos", meaning "stone"
Arblus: originally "Marblus", from "marble"
Kranix: originally "Granix", from "granite"
