How long was Optimus a Prime?

I searched the forums and could not find an answer to this question, so I apologize if A) This has been asked before. B) This is not the proper place for this question.
Do we have an estimate of how long Optimus Prime was the Prime and Commander of the Autobot forces prior the Exodus from Cybertron? I am writing a fan-fic taking place in this period and while I am sure I have enough time for the story to take place, but the Exodus novelization gives the impression that Optimus was Prime for a matter of days? prior to ordering the Exodus. I am attempting to use the IDW 2005 continuity and I can't find an answer to this.
Any assistance would be helpful.
