What will happen to your collection?

Greetings All,

As we stand at the precipice of new toy Reveals for 2020 this weekend, I have a different problem. Well maybe not actually a problem, but a *potential* issue I'll just have to tackle when the time comes.

I'm a dad about to turn 44. Unlike many of my peers, when I left home in my early 20's I took pretty much all my toy collection with me. Most of my friends had their old toys at their parents home which either went to younger siblings (which I don't have) or cousins, or were inevitably sold at yard sales. I however kept my collection for many years after being married, and eventually sold most of it out of necessity.

However, for the past 5 years or so, I've been building a new collection with my son, who will be 14 next month. While of course I pay for all of them, I say the collection is *ours*, many items are in his room, and he is free to play with them all, I trust him, I've taught him to take care of our collection.

However I imagine this golden age if you will has only about 4-6 years left. Either he will lose interest, which is fine, or if he wants to continue, There is certainly the possibility he will want to take it with him when he leaves home, as I did. I don't want to buy 2 of everything, because I think that breaks down the fun we share collecting, and would be extremely expensive. Of course I could always pull the *dad* move and encourage him to keep the collection with me, and it will always be there for him, but it's not so important as to cause a rift between us, especially as he starts his adult life in a few years.

Just wondering if any fans out there have thought about this, or are facing it now, or have already moved past this phase. Just trying to make conversation, any response is appreciated.

I'd be inclined to say to him "Take a few figures with you, leave the bulk of it here, then when you get your own place in a few years to settle down, you can come get the rest"

At some point you have to pass it on.

Personally, I work on the assumption we'll eventually has a cyclone that destroys my house and all my collection. Saves leaving it to my nephew to sort out.

My stuff will stay with me. I’m sure I’ll store my son’s collection for him when he eventually leaves the nest. He’s still young so this wouldn’t be for another 13-15 years.

I’ll likely thin out my collection before it’s time for me to figure out what I really have to do with it.
