No Lips on Prime Part 2...

Like, so they're not as ugly as before but it's still the one thing ruining the Geewun goodness of the cartoon.

My idea is that some tragic event could happen to some plot device character, and he keeps his faceplate up as a mark of respect.

We need to let the guys in charge know how much we like that Faceplate :/ It really is iconic. It's not a "Battlemask" like some are.

Here, Here. I second the motion.

I hate OP with a mouth. I don't care what their reasons are(animation and emotion trouble).

However, the odds of them changing it are very remote.

Did you even watch the scene where prime was battling megs and spoke at the same time? His faceplate was up, and whilst it looked awesome just magically moving up and down while he poske, it TOTALLY ruined the emotional aspect of the character. With a faceplate like that over your face you cant see any emotion, and thats why they got rid of it in the first place and only left it on during battle scenes which makes more sense to me anyway since bumblebee has his battle mask, so does megs and ratchet and i think ironhide has one too.

Keep the lips, stop the "geewun OMG BAY RUINED MY CHILDHOOD BY GIVING PRIME LIPS" whining.

Again, this is just another case of you bringing up old topics that have already been discussed to death a million times already, none of which ever had a happy ending.

I would have thought it would be just as easy to convey emotion using the eyes as it would with the mouth. Considering the fluidity of the new art style it wouldn't be unreasonable to use widening/narrowed eyes or brow furrows to convey the emotions of characters people would prefer behind face plates.

Though I understand what you're saying, I still don't like it.

It wasn't Bay that did it. Even in G1 they gave mouths to the many of the characters, ex Perceptor.

However, I fin OP Iconic with his faceplate. They are friggin' robots, why do any of them have mouths?!? They don't have an esophagus or a digestive track, the oral opening is for aesthetic purposes only.

I, for one, don't find it aesthetically pleasing for OP to have a mouth. But hey, that's my opinion.

I purchase based off of my opinion. That is why I have not bought any other incarnations of OP except the one(s) I like.

I choose not to support any of the movie line, or the new anime line. Neither did I buy any Armada, Energon, or Cybertron lines except the planets. I speak with my wallet.

People always forget that Prime originally had lips anyway.

But..but...but, without lips, how will he love?!

Prime really doesn't need lips. Tfs do not need a mouth to emote, just becuase writers are so limited in their ability to portray emotion; just like how in Cybertron every robot had to have a different silly accent, just so kids could tell them apart.

But this is what Transformers is all about... so what now? Your gonna deem it all as crap because they have mouths and different accents? If you found all this so stupid to begin with then why did you remain a fan?

With answering that question, you will (hopefully) find out why it doesnt matter if Prime has lips or not.

lol I always thought these new shows were crap, but their toy design was excellent.

I'm not really bothered by Prime's new set of lips. They're a lot better than his set in Cybertron, mainly down to the change in animation style. They don't bother me at all, I just wanted to post something today :P

To be brutally honest, I have only ever really been a fan for the toys. I love how they can change from one form to a comletely different one, and hope that one day their transformation can be done entirely by pressing a single button. That would lead to greater things for us all.

PS I think I need to help. Tfs feel more like an addiction than anything :P

I look forward to this new cartoon. From what we have seen, it looks to be quite well written; and, best of all, no silly accents! Yay! You can tell it's written by the Beast Wars team just from that!

It doesn't look like Prime will have a mouth for most of the series either way. His earth mode toy has a faceplate, so it's down to it being a case of battle mask, or he has a faceplate permenantly.

Prime is who he is by his actions. He could look like Wheelie, but he will be recognisable by the way he thinks and acts to other characters.

While most of the toys don't strike a chord with me, the show looks to be quite promising.

Written by the Beast Wars team? Did I miss something?! Since when did Bob and Larry come on board?

I'm not overly bothered by the lips, myself (although the Bruce Forsyth Special (that's the chin) throws me off a bit) - I'm good with the battle mask idea. I do kind of agree that it's unnecessary and kinda lazy to rely on a full face to convey emotion, when the eyes alone should be able to do the job. But then this is aimed primarily at young kids, and maybe they think that kids at that age relate better to human features.

And Sonray, you can't deny that those Cybertron accents were stupid. I can just about forgive it in the new characters, but Red Alert and Jetfire suddenly switching nationalities? Both had American accents in Armada, and Jetfire did in Energon, and suddenly Red Alert's English and Jetfire's Australian? That's just wrong, and you know it.
I did like the Easter Egg on the Hasbro website, though, which actually poked fun at it. When you put in Jetfire's code, you got a tale to the effect that Jetfire had just been away on another planet and picked up their native accent...

A strange and wonderous world called Australialand :P

I just want to know what other Classics we can expect to buy next year now. I've seen the animated figures and made a battle plan for purchases, I've seen some of the show and decided it will be worth watching. But I NEED to know what other Classics are coming out, so I can plan what other G1 characters I will still need to make via bashing and repainting.

TELL ME HASBRO! PLEASE! I GOTTA KNOW!

isn't anyone used to prime having lips yet?

At this stage, Prime has the mouth/battle mask combo in more incarnations than he has without it.

He still has the mask, just not ALL the time, I dont see what the big issue is.
Optimus Prime is a beautifully fleshed out character, his popularity over 25+ years attests to that. Not having the mask up 24/7 doesnt degrade the character.

Ghost of Starscream is correct, this horse has been beaten, buried and dug up more times than I can count. All the way back to Optimus Primal.

God all you G1 Purest losers need to get lives bad. Jeez you guys can bitch about anything cant you? First it wads the flames, then that bumblebee wasnt a VW bug (which they COULDNT DO BECAUSE VW WOULDNT LET THEM), and finally this crap. PRIME HAS A MOUTH, GET OVER IT!

If I have to choose between a Prime with lips that acts like Optimus we all know, and an accurate design that acts like some sort of anti-hero, I'm fine with the lips. Flames or lips don't change the core of Optimus Prime. I'll start complaining when someone has Optimus running around killing everything in sight and not helping those in need.

Personally I still prefer him with just the facemask. I thought Bumblebee did emotion brilliantly without a mouth so it could have worked just as well with Optimus.

Still, its not a major issue, just a minor aesthetic gripe.

The fact that 'The Touch' wasn't the theme tune on the other hand... THAT raped my childhood. Twice.

:P

Ruins the G1 Goodness? IT'S NOT G1! Christ, remove your head from your arse, and remove your arse from the 80s, and stop crying whenever whoever makes these things does something that isn't true to G1. Who cares, it's a new series! I don't know who's worse, this TC, or Conceptron?

maybe we just need to make it clear that this movie is NOT G1
