First you find an ample energon supply.
Then you sort of mine it, I guess.
You'll need some energon cubes to store it in though.
That could get tricky as Soundwave is the only one I can recall
ever making them(not sure how the Autobots got their energon).

Seems like the Con's always had some type of energon syphon
to suck the energon from the source. Not sure where you would get any of that material though. Maybe ebay has it.

Energon seems to be able to be converted from kinetic energy
as well as pure raw energon. If you find some let me know.
I'd like to have a jar of it.

Been a bit, still busy..wanted to say hello. Positive energy
from friendlies for me. Find a generator, have some cubes..handy
in a black out or boosting the car...eco friendly..no emissions.

I wish I knew... sadly the stuff doesn't grow on trees, and getting the better stuff can cost a lot. A warning: DO NOT get the extremely cheap Energon. That stuff is totally unrefined and they get it from less than good sources, trust me. You ever had energon from a refinery where they process fowl offal for oil? Bleah! I found out later WHY it was so cheap. It tasted like chicken gizzards.

But they have to be Fruit of the Loom or it won't work.

Depends on what era your in:-

In G1, Energon was made from other forms of energy, then made into cubes readily available for the 'Cons and 'Bots to use.

In Beast Wars Energon is a crystal type substance that can be naturally formed (though the Vok created the Energon found on Earth) and can be highly unstable, but can be refined to be used safely.
Also Energon can be found stable in the form of Energon Cubes (this happened to some Energon deposits after the Trans-warp explosion).

In Energon (Superlink) Energon is found like other minerals in the earths crust and can only be handled in its raw state by certain Transformers (the Terrorcons and the Omnibots) and Humans, it can also be found in a liquid state.

*EDIT*
Just found this bit on Wikipedia about Energon, it more or less says what I've pointed out, but in more detail.

You need to bring along Soundwave.

That's the major reason why they can't do an Energon storyline in the Movie!

No Soundwave, no invisible box, no Energon.

No Soundwave, no invisible box, no Energon.

Once Soundwave has made his Transparent boxes, head over to Dinobot Island, and stand at the edge of a Volcano.

Then the Energon will naturally leap out of the Volcano and into the Energon cube. No actual work required.

From page 23 of TF: More than Meets the Eye #8:
Energon can be found to exist in its raw form on other planets, including the thrid planet in the Sol system [See Earth]. The unusually high quotioent of Energon on this world was brought to Optimus Prime's attention by the Council of Ancients.

Technical Specifications
Energon can exist in a solid crystaline form as well as a plasma-based mode. The crystaline form is typical of naturally occuring Energon deposits; this raw, unprocessed Energon can be damaging to Cybertronians if they are exposed to exessive quantities of it. These Energon crystals are also extremely unstable and have great explosive properties. Further more, these raw crystals can interfere with scanning equipment and communications transmissions (although line-of-sight infrared transmission can overcome this deficiency). The plasma-based form is typical of processed Energon, which is not dangerous to Cybertronians in large quantities but does retain its explosive properties. Other natural energy sources can also be converted into this form of processed Energon. The process can be performed by large refinery machinery or done by certain Cybertronians with the internal capacity to create Energon cubes.—(TF MtMtE #8 page 23)

I hope that helps.

And let's not forget you have to freeze metal as well.
