If the Gobots were more like Machine Robo....

...then they would have actually stood a chance against transformers.

Just look at these and watch for some of the more familiar faces:

Any thoughts on this?

I have to go re-organize my thoughts after my reality has been questioned by the awesomeness of those clips.

they would have stood a much better chance, but they'd still have lost!

True. Just goes to show the incredible differences between Japanese and American animation.

Here's another one, an advert for the combiner armour sets (which I never managed to complete... :()

I'm guessing the clips from the second and third links are from the OVA, cause that animation looks as good as Transformers the movie.

But if it had come over, it wouldn't be the same. A guy got cut in half, and there is NO WAY that would have EVER made it on TV at that time. It would have been edited to the point where it would be hardly recogziable I bet, as those clips seem to gear toward a teen audiance(and kids too, I think Japan has less strict violence laws).

I'd like to see Machine Robo more now though.

if they'd have used that against 1 of the TF combiner teams, they'd have been ripped to shreds, how long did it take for them to combine? not including the time atken to put the armour on.
they'd be half way through the sequence and Predaking or Devastator would have ripped them to peices!

The animation is nice, but even without considering the need for some pretty serious editing, the cartoon was just one part of why Transformers hit it big. The toys were just as much a factor... heck, some might argue an even BIGGER factor, and as cool as some of the Gobots were, there just wasn't as much variety as in the TF line. I do wonder if a cartoon like this might have given Tonka the chance to make some original figures for the line, though.

Plus, as something of a Gobots fan... I would have hated to lose the goofy charm of the cartoon.

i thought gobots was alright. but i wasn't the biggest fan. of course then you find people who over analyze gobots and bitch because they can't believe what happened during the dubbing.

The cartoons would make more sense.

I love Go-Bots. I have the three movies on video (Pilot: The Battle For Go-Botron, mid season special: The Go-Botron Saga, and the theatrical movie: Battle Of The Rock Lords) and I throughly enjoy them and watch them repeatedly.

Yeah, the show was kitschy and goofy, but the humans were actually tolerable.
