Out of curiosity, does everyone know what the site is called "Seibertron" (say-ber-tron) instead of "Cybertron" (sai-ber-tron)?

Japanese name for the TF's home planet, yes? Cybertron was the faction that the red truck guy was leader of.

I'm ashamed to admit that at first I didn't. Though I knew a some stuff about the Japanese TF, I wasn't aware of the actual phonetics. I always pronounced it "Cybertron.com". It wasn't until you had the little banners under the "Seibertron.com" banner announcing that it's pronounced "Say-ber-tron" that I discovered my error. Much to my regret, I still pronounce it "Cybertron" out of habit.

But he's still a jackass. You should have left the name e-mail, he would have gotten that which he deserved.

But don't listen to me...I'm pure evil.

Heh heh. So do I usually. Had the domain "Cybertron.com" been available back in 2000, we would all be posting under that name instead. It wasn't, so I went with the name of a Transformers Graphic Novel I had worked on back in 1998 which I thought would be a good choice anyways because of copyright issues.

I think one of my first posts after joining here even asked the question why the spelling difference and that question was quickly answered.

I never knew about the Japanise name being different till I came here and I was actully directed here from another Transformers board that I don't go to anymore. (that's mainly because I haven't had any of the problems with the members here that I've had over there. I have had some problems with a couple people here but that's nothing compaired to what I delt with over there.)

I know it...but I've never heard it said.

I knew where the name came from as well. You'll have to forgive me though, I'll most likely never actually say, 'say-ber-tron'.

and that email...awesomely funny stuff. Don't let it get to you. An email like that is a little treasure that you should keep for all times.

I'd put it in my sig if I were you.

Unless of course you'd rather say something derrogatory about me in your sig, that's popular too. :D

Says the Kiwi :P

I am one of the many people who were unaware of the Japanese spelling of "Cybertron", until after joining Seibertron.com

But seriously, what kind of idiot emails the owner of a fansite as large as Seibertron to tell him he is an idiot for spelling the name wrong? (obviously an easy to find idiot judged by what Ryan has said)

It's not really just Japan. In the Netherlands we also use the name Cybertron. But in general we don't translate names from english to dutch. If we were to translate the name exacty, we'd be writing 'Seibertron' for the homeplanet planet aswell. Only for us dutch, it would then still sound like Cybertron. Not like Say-Ber-Tron as it does in japanese. The Cy-sound in dutch is more a 'See'-sound rather then a 'Cy'-sound. So for the correct sound we would either write it as either Seibertron of as Sijbertron, if we had not stuck with the English name. :-B

Aww...I always thought it was Cybertron.com. What does Seibertron mean anyway, then?

Anyway, man what a dumbshit. I'm gonna hunt this bastard down with my phycic-ness and drown him in the toilet! With my pee and crap still in it! Argggh!

I have a tendancy to call it sea-ber-tron. My reason for this is I have a friend named Sieber. I keep miss spelling her sirname Seiber...and I know it's the japanese name.

Some people have no class. No class what so ever.

I'm with Trunksie on this one. I only found out the pronunciation after I joined here because I had never heard the term before having not seen much in the Japanese universe of Transformers. I still accidentally pronounce it Cybertron occassionally in conversation, but it's like a lot of Japanese words. English speaking people tend to pronunce them using English conventions, like proncouncing 'se' as 'see', not 'seh', and 'i' as 'eye', not 'ee'.

Again with Trunksie, what a git for messaging the Bossman and calling him an idiot. Ten bucks says he's a bogan.

Well at least somebody knows something about Transformers. Its good that he e-mailed (Thank God!) because none of the 30,000 of us knew anything about them. Why in the world would the creator of the site know anything about Transformers? He's just a programmer...

Whew, close one there, I don't know how that has escaped notice in the years that this site has been active. We're such tools...

I knew it was different in Jap, but always thought it was pronounced the same way.

I first found this site by looking for Scramble City and Zone.

I grew up with US X-formers and the Marvel Comix Run.

Not until I came here did realize that is was more than just another spelling of the name.

I thought it was some sort of Engrish.

However, I still call it "Cy"bertron, just 'cause that's how I grew up saying it.

I was corrected in one of my first posts. I was unclear of the distinction between the :BOT:'s and the planet. However, in Jap, the planet is Seibertron, and the :BOT:'s there are called Cybertron's, why the difference, I don't know. It's prob. 'cause the Jap's got the info from the US?

:D :D Nope, I didn't have that problem since I had always knew that was the name in which it was used in Japan thanks to the Headmaster Series. What I didn't know, until now, it also used in Dutch. Corrected me if I'm wrong, but was there a time in which the Seibertron logo was written in Japanese style (not actual Japanese text just the style but in English)? Maybe that would help people a little bit as to where that word comes from.
