Battle Beasts... strange little buggers. My brother-in-law just found about 20 of them in his new classroom (he's teaching kindergarten this year).
I started playing with them and thought, "what would Megatron do"?
Anyway, did these odd little toys ever get into your Transformer battles at all?

Hehe. I loved those guys. I wish I had the whole entire collection. The only two I have are Sledgehammer Elephant and Leapin' Lizard. I'm surprised they aren't worn the heck out.
And just like every other toy you think will never be back in style, they're selling for a pretty decent price on Ebay just for a single figure.

Ah...Battle Beasts. My aunt bought me a bunch one year for Christmas. They made it INTO my TF//GI.Joe battles...but they never made it out. They were always the faceless victims of decepticon slaughter that made it seem more heroic when Optimus and Grimlock rode in an saved the day.
Or my sister wold make them ride her my little pony toys. Which was fine. But she tried that once with Grimlock and I popped her one. Ah, to be 5 again.

Yeah they came in 2-3 packs, and also as pilots with vehicle sets. It's kind of like how Yugi-oh and all the card games have action figure lines...but from the 80's...and much more simplified. They even had a comic series for a while through a company who's name has been lost in the sands of time. I always thought they were neat. And weren't they mentioned or seen as being an alien species within the TF comic universe? Thought I'd heard that somewhere.

Yep, in the US they were released in two packs.

They've shown up as part of the G1 universe in both the Headmasters anime and the DW comics (sort of). In Headmasters the Destrons invaded Beest and turned them into a slave race. The Cybertrons liberated the planet but the Destrons still had captives elsewhere that were used as forced labour to construct Mega Zarak's transtector. The DW reference is a bit more questionable. After Megatron is rescued from deep space by Wreckgar he reactivates a number of the Seeker clones from Age of Wrath on Junk and then goes off looking for further reinforcements before returning to Cybertron. The G1 story in the Summer Special sees Megatron on Beest hunting down the Predacons who have 'gone native' and reformatting them into Predaking at the story's end. I don't believe that any of the Battle Beasts/Beastformers where actually shown in that story, but it's been a while since I last read it. The story being set on Beest was really just an Easter egg for those in the know about Headmasters.

I only ever got one 2-pack, and it had some weird guy in army-green spiky armor and the shark guy in the blue armor. I don't know what happened to the other guy, but I've still got that lil' shark guy sitting next to my stereo.

Ah yes, the Battle Beasts. The first time I had seen any of these creatures was in "Transformers: Headmaster", the episode Astrotrain pointed out, "Rebellion on Planet Beast". It was when the planet of Battle Beasts was taken under hostage by Galvatron, I think. Then the Headmasters headed to the planet to rescue our furry friends after receiving a distress signal. Still, I could not remember the exact details of that episode. Heh heh...

They also had a brief cameo in the second issue of G.I Joe Vs. The Transformers IV:Black Horizon as inhabitants of Unicron. They gave Flint and Cosmos a little trouble when the two were trying to deploy a payload of metal eating spores into Unicron's brain.

the DW summer special strip has the shark, eagle (I think), giraffe, bull, lion, elephant (?) and a few others too small to make out properly. they're seen on the 2nd page of the story and that's it.
