My new car is a Decepticon! Help me name it!
Posted: Mon Nov 26, 2007 10:19 amMy 10 year old 1997 Chevy Cavalier Convertible finally died last Wednesday, two days after it's 10 year birthday, on my way back to Michigan to see my family for Thanksgiving. Not really the way I wanted my Thanksgiving weekend to begin, but what can you do. The transmission finally went out on her ... it ended on I-196 around South Haven, MI. Smoke was pouring out from beneath the hood. The check engine light and oil lights had just come on. The transmission had been acting up for about the last 20 miles. It kept slipping and was having trouble making it up hills and such. I was able to pull it into a rest area when I discovered that it would no longer go into gear. I milked that thing for all it was worth and I'm amazed that it made it as long as it did, especially with how I abused the crap out of it when I first got it 10 years ago. My mom and sister came to pick me up at the rest area after I had called my insurance company to get the car towed to the nearest repair shop 10 miles away. I didn't need to wait to hear from them to know it was pointless to fix the car at this point.
Fast forward to Saturday. My dad, a salesman at the Al Serra Auto Plaza in Grand Blanc, MI, was in the process of selling me a brand new 2008 Chevy Cobalt LT coupe complete with all of the power goodies, XM radio, Onstar and a sunroof. Not a convertible, but still a fun car to drive in Chicago nonetheless. I bought some chrome Decepticon badges on ebay the night before in antipication of getting this car. It's dark blue with a charcoal / dark interior.
I've been trying to think of a worthy Decepticon name for the car. I would almost rather come up with an unofficial name instead of a real name for it, or maybe a not as popular character. I've had some suggestions such as Soundwave, Thundercracker, Frenzy and Ravage ... but none of those do it for me because I don't think they evoke the image of a Cobalt. My car isn't a sports car, it's just a 2 door Chevy coupe ... nothing really special other than what it means to me. I looked at the names of the Decepticon Micromasters but nothing did it for me there either.
The only name I've heard so far that I thought would be appropriate is Sideburn. I know he is an Autobot but names have switched allegiances many times over the years.
I'd love to hear some more suggestions.
