I confess, I don't. There must be a definitive answer - of EVERY named character that has appeared in toy, comic, television, movie form. That is part of the official canon. If a character has had differing forms, he/she would count as the same character. Does anybody know how many there actually are?

Thats like asking how many stars there are in the world. We know it isnt endless, but its more than anyone would care to count.

What is the question? Let me start... how many toys?... How many cartoon characters?... How many comic book characters?... how many minicons... how many japanese versions... how many name changes...how many repaints...
It will take me 10 million years to figure out what the question is.

Would you want only American? or do you want all the Japanese and European transformer count too? , should you want diaclones also like the Converter line where Omega Supreme got his mold from?

I think it's a legit question. The only way to answer this is with everyone's help.

I've combed through Wikipedia, Teletraan-1, Yahoo answers, and judging by the many refernces to repaints, Japanese versions, etc., and I have seen that no one source has a definitive compedium of the canonical characters. A point of importance, I would think.

Back on topic. How high dod the Japanse G1 Numbers go? I know that Dia Atlas was C388. How many more were after that? There was one number for every release.

Hey, I didn't say it WASN'T a legit question. I think it causes some brains to do some thinking...and some research. My comment was based on looking at the scope of such a question. Here is a little help to get started w/ the big producer themselves: Hasbro (or one of them anyways).

From Hasbros Transformer checklist I counted 1,443. I didnt include the voice changer, board games and those things. I did include target masters,headmasters, replicas, robot heroes and such.
