Awhile back, we reported that Wizards of the Coast was looking to possibly release a Transformers Collectible Game. Now it looks like it will happen. Superherohype.com has received a press release from Wizards of the Coast announcing a Transformers 3D battle-card game. The game is scheduled for release on June 2, 2007. The Transformers 3D battle-card game is a constructible card game that allows players to build their favorite Autobot and Decepticon characters using punch-out pieces from plastic cards and battle them against each other. Each character can be built in robot or vehicle form using the same set of pieces. The 26-figure set will include characters from the upcoming Transformers Movie as well as other characters from Transformers history. To read the entire press release click here.

Reminds me of that 3D jigsaw from back in the 80s, if I read the press release right. The 'battling' aspect is a new twist, though.

How wonderfully random.

Oooh, kinda like Wizkids' Pirate game! Sigh. I kicked the Heroclix habit only to get hooked on Attacktix, and now THIS. I'm so weak.

"Each character can be built in robot or vehicle form using the same set of pieces."

That part seems fairly interesting but I don't think I'll be buying these.

"Each character can be built in robot or vehicle form using the same set of pieces."

I didn't realize they were still making BTR sets.....

The concept look....weird but im confident that Wizarsds will do its best. This might somehow eventually lead to "Transformer D20"....

They're not... It says the SAME set of pieces. :P

(I'm still perplexed at why BTR couldn't find a place to stick on the extra vehicle bits in the robot modes... It's not like the robots would have looked any worse. 8-| But I digress.)

Anyhow, I think some of you are expecting too much from a four-buck pack of cards. Me? I like it... Gameplay AND cheap troop-building. The reassembly is forgivable here too, because you can't exactly put any sort of jointing on the things. If WoTC holds tournaments for this, I may get hooked... I miss the competition I used to get out of Duel Masters.

Is it just me that's picked this up, or has anyone else noticed that the figure shown in the image is Jetfire.

Now is that G1 Jetfire or a new movie design Jetfire? Because it sure as hell doesn't look like G1, and if it is movie design, =P~

Wizards should cease with all of these lackluster CCGs and do what the fans have been clamoring for for about thirteen years: reprints of the Power Nine.

My friends and i are getting tired of playing magic and DBZ. So i think ill have to pic up a few packs of these so we can try it out. And if not ill just add the "figures" to my TF collection.
