Question about the Season 3 characters' design

It seems that most of them are listed as being "Cybertronian" vehicles.

Since the film takes place in 2006, is it not possible that they were intended to be what the vehicles of humans would look like in 2006? It'd be a bit odd for robots in disguise to appear as things that would clearly stand out.

Most of them were Transmetal 2, with the exception of Depth... Oh, the OTHER season three. ^_^

Sorry, I couldn't help it...

Anyhow, I get what you're saying (the film takes place in 2005, by the way), but there's some holes in the theory...

For starters, there is no way Wheelie's alt mode is from Earth, as he was stranded on Quintessa despite having a ship that seemed more or less perfectly functional.

Secondly, Predacons. If it's hanging around a giant robotic lion, even a Ford Taurus is gonna start looking suspicious, so maybe disguise is less important.

Thirdly, a lot of the action was starting to take place off of earth, so earth disguises were starting to become less important.

Mainly, though? I think it's just because the word gives a better idea of how the form looks than just saying "futuristic".

I think;

A/ The Designers were getting bored

B/ The original idea for transformation was functionality, not descuise (although during exploration/invasion that is the number one function)-so you got a lot more streamlined automotive machines-which arent then technically cars-so the original point is moot

C/ I worked Functionality and Moot into an answer, i deserve a cookie :grin:

well idk about that much. how many winebagos do you see on cybertron? (rodimus prime) i think hot rod, kup, arcee and rodimus were supposed to be futuristic cars, since they had some semblance to old worlds fair concept cars, except of course rodimus, who is a souped up camper. (not that would be roughing it with style) blurr though i can totaly see as a cybertronian vehicle, same with springer.

I'll grant you every one of those but Kup. There's no way a grizzled old-timer like him would let them turn him into one o' them new-fangled concept autmobiles. He's been trasforming into this truck since before you were manufactured, and he's gonna STAY transforming into this truck 'til they melt his lifeless chasis down into armor plating... Kids these days, no respect...

Well, hadn't the Autobots made peace with the humans by 2006 in both the comics and cartoon so there wouldn't be as much of a need for disguise. At least from the humans, obviously it would help to be able to hide from the Decepticons.
