OKay...this guy is the coolest dad ever. In homage to the "Transformers" movie, he painted his Saleen like Barricade...right down to "...to Punish and Enslave". Here's the link :-)

I some states, you could MAYBE get away with that....but not in that one...and not in this one either! It's nice to attempt to make your child happy and all, but one must stick within the laws of one's region...and it's always smartest to check with the local establishment before you even ATTEMPT to duplicate a vehicle that resembles a police car!

Yes he was...apparently his car is a lot like the area's Police vehicles, but as long as he doesn't "impersonate an officer" he is okay with the repaint.

You h ave to admit it could be a good thing. How many of us have been out driving only to see some speed demon doing double the limit tear past us? The more police on the road (even a fake police car) the safer people will drive. I think he should leave it that way.

I love the "411 for theater information" bit!

A lot of people ride out of service police motorcycles, but for nostalgia keep them looking like the real thing. I can't see how this is any different. I've seen some "police" bikes with an out of service sign on the saddlebags.

I bet the police actually like the car. It probably has the same affect that a real police car does, slowing traffic around it back down to the speed limit.

I agree...it's a great thing. How many roads out there really need it? I know the drivers in my town suck...

lol...yeah, that "411" thing is quite amusing! :lol:

Most retired police vehicles are required by law (at least in this state) to have the police decals and other law-enforcement accoutraments removed from the vehicle prior to private-citizen sales. I guess it is all up to the particular state and local laws regarding the private use of retired service vehicles, and those differ greatly from region to region.

I think it just makes sense to not be driving around a "fake police car"...in this day and age, where it is some sort of badge of honor with some unscrupulous youth to cap a cop, it can also be VERY unsafe to drive said "fake police cars"!

I love the car it's great and i think it's ok and should'nt be a problem. I've seen many cars sold buy police at auctions on the road that still resemble police cars except without the lights. If anything the local police agencies should ask to use the car for public awareness and fund raisers. :D

I'm sorry but I don't read anywhere in the story about him getting in trouble for it. Like it states he will get in trouble if he starts acting like a cop. The 'sirens' don't even work, but man, how cool would that be anyways? :grin:

He did check with the local authorities.

You might want to re-read that. There aren't any mustang police vehicles. Although I did read somewhere that New York is going to employ some in it's own police force.

He should park it by the road and point a hair dryer at people.

OMG THAT'S WHAT I DO ON SUNDAYS!!!!! 8-}

no more waiting at red lights....that is until the cops pulled you over.
