Could Robot Points return?

Personaly I think they should. The mail ins were always fun. In alot of cases it made you wanna get more figures just to score the mail away ones.

Anyhow, I know there have been tons of discusions on weither they should come back, what they should offer, what where they and so on and so on.

Well, I came across something that yesterday that almost gets my hopes up!

See last weekend I overpaid for my first 3 GIJoe 25th figures, and I tell yoou I got hooked. In one week I'm up to 11 figures with about 15 more ordered online.

Inside of the 2 packs is what? A mail away form for DOC! As I'm sure most of you know you need to save up a bunch of stickers, put them on the form, then... TOYS :D

This gets my hopes up cause after all what Hasbro does for 1, they normaly tend to do for all. If you guys are buying the Joe sets, I ask you suport the campaign. It's the only way to nudge Hasbro into making this a trend.

Didn't they used to use robot points to allow collectors to buy discontinued toy lines? I think Ratchet was $8 plus fifteen robot points, wasn't he? Something like that anyway.

Initialy they where for mail in exclusives like Reflector, the Power Dashers, and Omnicons.

Then later they where used for discontinued figures. Thats how I got my Prime and SunStreaker.

My brother use to work in a store and rip them off the boxes for me.

They should bring them back, then. I don't see any substantial reason not to.

Even if they offered something like weapon packs, it would be worth it :D .

I remember their use to be a cardboard playset too. I wouldn't mind more cut and fold stuff. Why can't a figures incert turn into a little storage base or gun placement that could be smashed up :-?

I have no qualms about them bringing the points back for these packages because they simply are not worth trying to save, they are just too flimsily constructed...it's sacrilege to do it to a G1 box and a few other lines at best but not the 2007 movie line of toys.

I support the idea of the return of robot points or something similar as I enjoy saving up and and mailing away point or whatever for figures or other items.
A return of it could see a benefit of people buying more of the toy line's so that they could get the points they need.
Such promotions like the Star Wars Vintage Line's mail in figures or the current G.I. Joe redemption Doc figure have been a factor in my own purchases of figures I wouldn't normally buy or I was on the fence about whether I really wanted to get it or not.

Oh I'd love robot points.

This had been asked before a while ago (perhaps not even on this board...) and I hated the idea. I remembered how much of a pain it was when I was a kid, how badly I wanted those figures.

But after thinking about it more and more and realizing how many figures I buy, plus I'm used to mail order at this point...I think it would be a terrific idea.

Though I would like to add one thing...

They should have a system like this:

$10.00 plus 5 robot points for a Voyager (or whatever class)
or $15.00 plus 2-3 robot points for whatever class.

And so on. I think the cash price and points should be adjusted accordingly, because not everyone will have the correct amount of points required and this way, everyone has a chance to get the figure they want.

I think the robot points idea could work well if they handle it correctly. Although...if HTS is in control of the situation...it would take forever to get your stuff or you'd have to worry about them selling out, etc.

Although...that would allow you to redeem the points electronically (like put a code on the inside of the instructions or box for redemption.)

*sighs* I'd love to see it happen.

They were in the Bast Wars line for the Japanese market. That was a few year ago though. I would live to see them back again. This time though I hope that they would be included as a card inside the package. I would hate to ruin the box by cutting it up. Yeah I am anal about my boxes.

As nice as they would be, they would more than likely only be open to US residents. Hasbro Oceania and Hasbro UK wouldn't run with it, so it'd be yet another disappointment for international fans.

If they did bring it back, I'd be interested to see what they would be offering in return... perhaps all the leftover Energon Ironhides?

I take it Energon Ironhide was a really rather terrible figure then?

I would love it if Robot Points made a return. The whole mail away idea is pretty much designed I think for the collectors, and that way they could offer some cool stuff or repaints that only fans would really care about. Like if the Botcon Seekers were thought to end up as duds at retail because parents wouldn't be able to tell the difference, they could have offered them as mail away figures.
Some people won't like the idea because they collect MISB or whatever, but so what? Why can't I have something neat because someone else doesn't want to open their toys? Hells yes to Robot Points. I picked up a bunch of Star Wars guys recently just for the Captain Rex offer. This kind of idea should definately be revived.

See thats where it's win/win for Hasbro though. Collectors, will be even more hard pressed to get doubles.

Yes, people, you are that insane, I can say that since I can admit it.

The real nut job collector though, will buy 1 to keep mint, one to open, and you would think, that would be the one to offer up the points. But no, they're supper anal about this stuff so they'd by a third, take the points off that, then resell it on Ebay, so they could keep the opened figures bot as neat as possible.

After all, you know you can't live without a nonreturnable Energon IronHide repaint, that would mean your collection would never be complete!!!

Or even better, they could offer the RM Seekers, which would be unique to the US market!(I only bring them up cause I just wone a TC/SW loose set about a minute ago :D )

You know who you are.

However even if a figure is resold, Hasbro has still already been payed. Hence, win win.

What would the British translation of "Robot Points" be anyway?
