I am jealous of today's children

I turn 30 in about three months time. I've been a TF fan since it started. And I am very jealous of today's children. Not, I hasten to add, because I think what they've got is better than G1. No, it's because they've got so MUCH.

I look through the TV listings for today and find that, if I wish, I can watch the G1 cartoon, Cybertron, RID and Animated. I grew up with Transformers only on during the holidays, and then broken up into five minute segments hosted by Timmy smegging Mallett!

And then there's the toys. The Movie line is just ending, but there will be Animated toys coming right along to replace them, and soon after that we'll get Universe. And the Marvel Crossover stuff. And if that's not enough, there's the Star Wars Transformers line.

Kids today. They don't know how good they've got it. :-P

I can understand alot of the points you raise, and I am an older fan myself.

But I can tell you this, 1 kids are to stupid to know how good they have it.

2, unlike when we were kids, now we can afford it, our parents can't say no, and our siblings cant smash it

While I can most certainly agree how good the kids have it I can also say that I get to enjoy the best of both worlds. I'm ...thirty-something as well and have 2 boys, ages 8 and 11, and not only do I get to enjoy the same Transformers they do, they also get to enjoy Dads G1 thru Movie series toys (some of them anyway) and get to see cool stuff that their little friends never get to lay their hands on.
(they thought they had some bad-ass stuff till Dad pulled out Fortress Maximus :P )
Their knowledge of the TF universe far outspans that of their friends. So I've made sure my kids, unlike many of their peers, realize how good they have it compared to the "old days".

You seen any of the other crap that's on nowadays?

Seriously, it's quantity over quality. Whole channels dedicated to kids shows but sadly said shows are absolute tripe. Todays kids shows are the most retarded, diabolical and least educational nonsense I've seen in years. It's just... rubbish. Plots that mean nothing, characters you can barely hate because they have so little personality. It's terrible.

I think today's youth might THINK they've got it good but in comparison with 80's and 90's stuff its horrible.

Hmm, I should have been clearer: I'm only jealous of today's kids for the amount of TF product available to them. Yes, pretty much every other kids show sucks sweaty donkey danglies. And I wouldn't want to miss out on having G1 as part of my childhood for anything. But... damn, kids today have it good.

Not TF-related, but I played GTA IV today. Didn't haven anything like that 25 years ago. :(

That's the downside of dealing with kids today. Yeah they have cooler TF stuff (especially some of the cartoons) than we did and much more of it, but our parents didn't have to waste time "de-programming" us. We knew what was real and how far to take things as far as play goes. If the folks told ya "Well dumbass, if it hurts, don't do it!" we didn't do it again.
Now all the mindless crap on t.v. has our kids so screwed up that a parent has to go to extremes to snap the kids out of the brainwashing.

Now I really miss the simpler, G1 days. I started out slightly jealous of my kids, now I'm jealous of my parents. How f'd up is that?? #-o

I think if any of the little ones today saw even my little toy collection they'd be jealous of me.

I remember I was buying an Endor AT-AT at the ToysRUs on my commute home and the lady ringing me up said, "You're in here all the time. Are you buying this all for your son?"

I have no children or a desire to have any. I'll admit though, if I did have that hypothetical son, he'd be one lucky little brat.

Human nature. It will never be enough.

15 years after, the kids of today will be all grown up.

And they'd say, "Kids of today are so lucky. They have all these gizmos. Automatically transforming TF toys at the push of a button. Finally, a set of accurately scaled Autobots and Decepticons. Hologram transformers from pocket-sized projectors. And much more."

"All we had back then were a bombardment of different series of action figures. Plus comics, video games, shows, and that's it."

But now we can buy those and the new crap.

The best part about being a resposible adult with a childish glimmer in the eye, a hefty paycheck!

They aren't apartments any more, they're TF Shrines with kitchens attached and a small corner for a bed. Everything else...SHELVES!

Any plans of expanding into a TF theme park? I'll pay ticket to see it.

Sledge jr: Daaaaaaad.
Sledge: What?
Sledge jr: I can't find my Universe 2025 figure.
Sledge: How many times have I told you to make sure you have his remote control before you turn his invisibility field on? Honestly, I never had this problem with MY Mirages.

I don't live with my children but I visit them on the weekends. I go to their home since there is more space there than at my place, and I usually ask which series of TF's they want me to bring since all my stuff is neatly organized (again, a space issue). So the biggest problem I have to deal with at the end of the weekend is when I'm packing stuff up and have to stop and ask "Wait a minute! Is that my Astrotrain or yours?" Or worse yet, getting a call 2 days later from my oldest saying that they finally found this or that mini-con under a bed/couch.
If they develop invisibilty fields for a future Mirage, my kids and I both will be screwed. :P

I'm not jealous of the kids because
1) I've got over 20 years of transformers joy behind me
2) I can get hold of toys that aren't available in the UK thru the internet
3) There's a huge range of figures to get, past and present, thanks again to the internet
4) My parents won't complain about space
5) I appreciate the toys more now than ever before due to the way they've evolved and improved

Don't forget that every generation declares "kids today - they don't know they're born!"
(from Monty Python:
"when I was a lad we had to get up at 5 in the morning, lick the road clean with our tongues before going to work in the mines, then my dad would cut me in half with a rusty blade and send me to bed without supper at 6a.m., an hour AFTER I had to get up again."
"aAye, and if you tell that to kids today they won't believe you!")

Sweaty donkey danglies? That's a new one to me. But Sledge, I turn 30 in about two months also. My sympathies to you on the impending lose of your youth.

If we make it DK instead of UK I'll completely echo that!

Kids of today may not appreciate the TF lore as much as we "has beens" do. Hence, they may not feel exceptionally blessed with the abundance and variety of TF toys today.

That's kindof what I was trying to say in point 1, 3 and 5 above. I'd also like to edit point 2:

2) I can get hold of toys that aren't available in the UK thru the internet which I couldn't do when I was a kid, therefore I remember the frustration of not being able to get Soundwave, Devastator and Jetfire so I really appreciate the www now. Kids *tut* they don't know they're born.
