Transformers vs. Go-Bots

In a topic I had started before the fourms got this new look I asked why everyone liked Transformers so much while they hated the Go-Bots. It's kind of the same idea exicuted a different way.

Anyway I found these images of Go-Bot characters. The ones under their proper group names are how they appeared on the show and the ones under the Transformer group names are their toys.

Guardians - Autobots

Renigades - Decepticons

Now what I did was try to reverse engineer what was done abouve to turn Transformers characters into Go-Bots and this is what I came up with.

Autobots - Guardians

Decepticons - Renigades

Why are there two versions of everything?

You should really read my post before asking questions like that. :-B

Ahhh, I miss playing with Gobots about as much as I miss playing with Transformers.

No sarcasm. I'm serious. I do. As much as Gobots were the poor man's Transformers, they were still very cool.

Growing up, I wasn't a big fan of Go-bots. I did watch the shows, but I don't remember much. Goes to show how much I really cared. But more recently, I've been all about having Go-bot characters in the TF line. I really like what FP has done with their prose story for the Go-bots and hope that we continue to see more of them in the future, which will most likely happen if anyone has read the last TFCC prose story "Withered Hope".

So far we have:
Bugbite
Crasher (Fracture)

I'm hoping for Badboy soon, especially with the Powerglide coming out in Universe soon. Oh, and Badboy was one of my favorite characters in the prose story.

All Garbagebots ( Go bots ) should be destroyed and they are not worth the recycled garbage they were quickly crapped out on the assembly lines :!:
:-P

Was that out loud ?

Nope. Still don't get it.

I didn't need you to highlight it - I did get it after a re-read!

Baseless biases ? please dude!

Don't make assumptions to tell me that I am being biased as I had some of both lines when they first came out. Garbagebots designs were just horrible and the names of the characters ? Cop-tor, Cy-kill just to name a few were just really bad... the vast majority of their voices sounded like helium sucking freaks and lets not forget about the flying cows they used for bases!

the show was just horrible too.

Look. I'm not siding with the Go-Bots, Tranaformers are way better. But first of all, anyway who constantly refers to something by a derogatory name is just ridiculous. Just like the people who refer to Animated as TF:CHINS, you shouldn't call the Go-bots "Garbage-bots" in every sentence. And two: Some of our beloved transformers have ridiculous names too. Optimus Prime? Galvatron? Bumblebee? We're just used to the transformers names is all.

I will refer to them as I see them and that is garbage. that is simply how a lot of people refer to things they don't care for rather than just saying I don't like them, to me that does not show enough about how anyone really feels about something.

When people say that to me and pretty much everyone else I've encountered in life they are always asked to elaborate further when just saying I don't like this.

the assumption made against me was because I had no basis and was being biased which is not correct.

As far as being used to their names ? please, those names were pretty unique given for the time and characters...Bumblebee fits him because of his color and he can often sting like a bee, Optimus prime, I always thought of his optimistic outlook on the situations at hand and his courage and Galvatron to me always invoked a name inspiring fear and power... the names have always fit the characters well so is an alien robot supposed to have the name of Marty or something then ?

My reasons for not liking the gobots have nothing to do with a bias or baseless attitudes they were just poorly done and when you consider names that revolve around their alt modes for a lot of them their was nothing special about them to me.

Some Go-Bot names have even been re-used for Transformers. Leader-1 was the Mini-con beloning to Megatron in Transformers Armada.

I think "garbage" is a little strong. I still have most of my original Go-Bots and some of them have held up better than my original Transformers. Also, while the Go-Bot bases were a little bulky, they were the first ones released. They came out even before Omega Supreme.
I also liked the GoBot combiners. Puzzler is very cool and I finally was able to get one not long ago. Plus I liked the Power Suit idea so you could basically make any five Go-Bots into a combiner.
I still have almost all of my originals and have been able to get most of the ones I was missing. I remember using the Super Go=Bots such as Baron Von Joy and Spay-C alongside my Transformers because the scale was roughly the same.
Finally, my first transformable toy robot was a Go-Bot. Rest-Q, an ambulance, whom I pay homage to in my HMW team.

true enough and not a decision I would have made but perhaps the writer of the show or creator of the character was a gobots fan too.

Leader 1 was just not a name that inspired anything either mysterious in nature about the character or otherwise, to me it says bang your dead and can be easily replaced by Leader 2.

Optimus Prime conjurs up more about his character to me and always did from the beginning.

You could say the same about Elita-One. Hell even Alpha Trion translates into a number. Alpha meaning 1 and Trion obviously means 3 so technically Alpha Trion's name is 13... well that's too bad.

There's allso a fembot named Beta and Beta is the number 2. That's her entire name, 2.

Not quite true - Beta is the second letter of the greek alphabet.

Slagging off Go-Bots for being named after their alt mode is not very fair. Some TFs are named after their alt modes too - Astrotrain, for example.

Not really accurate... when he is in space that's where the astro part comes in he is not in train mode when he is in space. :P

Edit: Besides, I'm not just talking about the alt mode used as their names I'm talking about them being like Cop-tor, Cy-kill etc.

You don't see Astrotrains name being created like Space-train or Space-locomotive.
