Ok, we complained because he looked awful, but I don't think anyone was bothered he was a jet, just that he was a terrible jet.
By the time Beast Wars came out, Megatron hadn't been a gun since 1984 (1986 if you count Galvatron as Megatron). Prime was a truck in 1995, and would be again in 1997.
Beside, TRUKK NOT MUNKY is pretty much shorthand for "Transformers should not turn into organic animals, they should be mechanical."
I pretty much agree with Sledge here, and I know he hates Beast Wars, and I kind of liked it as something different, but not until recently did I get that opinion.
Anyhow, we're more or less used to Megatron always being something different, and Prime always being a truck. Iconic or however you want to say it, I think it;s boring as hell that Prime is always a truck. Better a truck than an ape, but I don't know. This same kind of Prime must be a truck arguement carries over to lots of other TFs, like Starscream will perpetually be an aircraft of some type, and how many times have we heard about how Soundwave can't or shouldn't be in the new movie or whatever because kids don't know what a tape player is anymore. Most kids have never seen an abacus, but that doesn't mean that all existing abaci must be eliminated or the concept could never be used again.
Anyhow, Megatron doesn't always need to be a gun, and I think the fandom is cool with that because he's already been so many other things.
Yeah, and movie mode Megatron was worse than herpies. Not that I've ever had the pleasure of herpes, but Movie Megatron=pile of horseshit.
