Worst trades ever?

No, I'm not talking about Babe Ruth from the Red Sox to the Yankees or anything sports related.
I'm talking about things in the Transformers Universe where one thing replaced another. For instance, for you it could be when Optimus prime was replaced by Rodimus Prime. It could be when they stopped making primarily diecast figures and brought in plastic ones.
For me it was probably when the Best Wars TV series ended and they brought in Beast machines. They took everything that was so good about BW, lit it on fire and let it burn away.
The sky's the limit for this topic, it could be about toy lines, shows, whatever.

I don't like that one of my Favorite characters (Sky/Jet Fire) was essentially replaced after the movie for Sky Lynx. Whay trade the awesomeness of Skyfire for a pompous ass with a British accent?
Boggles what is left of my mind...

The repeated "pressing of the reset button."
Personally, I would have rather had one long timeline, one expanding universe, rather than multiple parallel universes. But once they started, there's no point in stopping now.
So, I guess that means trading the original continuity G1-BW-BM for A/E/C, and again trading AEC for Animated.
Why couldn't we have had one long timeline? New characters and deaths of old ones doesn't bother me. It may sound like heresy, but Transformers would still be Transformers without Optimus, Megatron, Starscream, etc. Beast Wars proved that. Why not have multiple stories about other ships and crews?
Take Star Trek, for example.

Speaking of Beast Machines, the Megatron figures we got in it were terrible. Especially the big floating head.
Trading the regular beast bodies out with transmetal bodies in Beast Wars was bad too for all characters, especially Primal.
Trading Translucent eyes and windows out with crappy paint is terrible on toys.
Trading Scorponok out with Quickstrike in BW was not a good trade.
Trading dealing with shoddy "titanium" figures for having figures of War Within at all sucks.

Good points about the Beast Machines stuff, I didn't like the show but it looks like we didn't win a lot of the toys, either. Actually, some of them aren't bad, but a lot of the established characters they made new figs of royally sucked.
Cheetor is a figure that kept getting uglier. His original BW figure was fine, the Transmetal was good as far as Transmetals go, but the third season BW fig was ugly at best...and then the giant Beast Machines fig was just downright hideous.

In reference to the cartoons
I think the worst trade was giving up the "Point and shoot" style of fighting (G1, Beast wars, etc) with the Dragonball Z (I AM ANNOUNCING MY NEXT MOVE LIGHT YEARS BEFORE I DO IT" style of combat we got with RID, Cybertron and the stuff around that period in time.
Sorry to all the DBZ fans out there, but was there EVER an episode where they weren't fighting in a canyon?.....Man I hate that show.....
Disgustedly yours

Them's fightin' words, Al. (Well, so is anything that makes me use phrases like"Them's" and "fightin'")
BW should have kept Scorp and Terror, and forgotten about ever using Quickstrike. Seriously, he's a bad generalzation of southern people.
G1 made a bad trade when Hot Rod came along. Springer, Blurr, UM, Sandstorm and Wreck-Gar weren't bad, but I'd take Sideswipe, Smokescreen, Red Alert, Inferno, Prowl, and Wheeljack over them anyday. And Wheelie and Kup....how I loathe them.....I'd even take Bumblebee and Reflector over those two!

trading head/target masters for minicons. those beep-boop-beeb-ers are freakin annoying.
trading optimus' big rig mode for a fire truck just remind's me of ralph wiggum' "i wanna be a fire truck when i grow up."
trading optimus' facemask for lips is lame
now can we trade what happened to bumblebee's vocals in the tf movie (the live action/cgi one) to wheelie. that little rhyming bastard is just as annoying as the minicons...

Completely agree with Savage on the Reset and Star Trek ideas.
Was initially disappointed when Dreamwave didn't continue from the Marvel comics. Soon grew to love them but the IDW reset has changed too much. Dreamwave portrayed the characters perfectly as opposed to IDW's horrible handling of Ramjet as a poor man's Starscream.
The Thunderwing Matrix concept was one of the Marvel run's crowning achievements then we got the hollower than a dead Pretender's shell Stormbringer crap.
Also miss Marvel's honourable Scorponok.
Before I'm lynched, I do like IDW Galvatron and Hot Rod but I'm just not happy with IDW overall.
Trading the Scout Class for the Legends.
Trading the Diaclone car scale for Deluxe cars. It's just wrong to me and I will never display Classics Prowl alongside Classics Starscream.
Trading Robotmasters Starscream for blocky and poorly painted Classics Starscream.
Trading Micromasters for the mostly hideous Mini-cons.
Trading G1 season 1 for G1 season 2.
Trading the 86 movie and all the UKTF future saga to bring Unicron sooner in the comics world.
Oddly, I do prefer Prime without the faceplate as for some reason, it's what put me off his original appearance.

Actually G1 Seasons 1 and 2 had a lot of the same characters/concepts in them, season 2 just had more characters. Do you mean Season 3 (Post Movie)?

I totally prefer Micromasters to Minicons, too.

No, I just felt Season 2 went very silly, storywise and it gave us the hated Alpha Trion and his ridiculous facial hair.
Episodes like Kremzeek and Megatron's Masterplan just seemed silly. The season 1 episodes where the Decepticon's continued their ceaseless search for energy were a lot cooler than the corny idea of the week that season 2 promoted. Even as a kid, I felt they were silly. Robot Insecticide? C'mon! Plus the animation took a turn for the worst.
I actually like Season 3, being a huge Rodimus and Ultra Magnus fan, though I found Perceptor and Kup very annoying. Didn't appreciate the Quintessons as a kid because they weren't TF's but now I see they were very well done. Shame about Galvatron, though. Also S3 gave us the brilliant Dark Awakening and the Technobots' Money is Everything.
