Why they never made the Dinobots into a combiner... Just always kinda wondered this, I mean, there is five of them and they are a group, hmm.

Some might say it's because they're dinosaurs in their alt form and would look really weird if they combined, but the Predacons were animal-like and they were combiners (Predaking), so, I dunno, have just been curious about this for a really long time, maybe 20+ years, lolol.. (since the G1 cartoon & comics)

Edit: Forgot to add...maybe it's because they were all too dumb? Lol

Pretty much the entirety of the first two years of Transformers (84/85) were repaints of pre-existing Diaclone molds. At this point in time Devestator was the only combiner with a pre-existing mold. Hasbro likely just wasn't into putting out the extra $$$ into creating their own combining Dinobots when they already had 5 pre-existing dinobot molds to go from.

I have seen some pretty funny attempts at it on ebay though

Maybe no one at the time had invented the concept of "combiners" when TF's were created? That would be my suggestion.

I always thought the insecticons should have been combiners...

Both the molds for the Constructicons and the Trainbots were around at the time.

When it comes right down to it, the original toys just happened to have 5 pieces that became what we know as the Dinobots.

When they where made the gimmick of them being piloted mecha-dinos was more than enough.

Then we had the Constucticons enter the cartoon shortly after, and people thought, wouldn't it be cool.
Then we got the special teams in their sets of 5, and people again thought it would be cool.
Then we got the Predicons(G1) and Prediking, and people thought it would be badass if the Dinobots could counter that.
Then we got The Beast Within, and any possible coolness that could of come from a Dinobot combiner was shot down beyond repair.
