Botcon 2009
Other than a website that says a date and hotel information, does anyone see signs that there is a convention other than a thread here and there on different forums? If I were Hasbro and this were my main toy line, and this were my official convention I would be really ticked. Fan conventions like TFCon and AA are spot on for timely information, additions, deletions and changes.

Who is going? Who still needs roommates? Who is organizing the Seibertron.com meet-up? It would be nice to get a count of forum members who plan on being there. Will there be Seibertron T-shirts available this year?

Please correct me if i'm wrong but Botcon is still a fan convention held by the official fan club and not Hasbro themselves.

Yes OTFCC is making us wait for details of this years events but it is still going forward, package details and rates should be announced soon. Just keep watching here.

You are right and wrong. Botcon is put on by FunPublications and is run as a business. FunPub is licenced by Hasbro. The Official Transformers Collectors Club, GI Joe Club and some others are products of FunPub. Hasbro named the OTFCC as its official club. The convention is run by FunPub and they get a handful of volunteers from the OTFCC to help out the day of the convention. Ask someone at FunPub just how the OTFCC sponsores the con and you will get a very surprising answer.

It is not put on by fans, unless you mean that the employees are fans themselves. It's purpose is the bottom line. A well filled dealers room so you can collect older products is not high on their list when they consider a location.

It is a small con by design. There is absolutely no reason not to give out information as it comes in. Three months to go and you still cannot get your plane reservations because you have no idea if you are going to go on a tour or take a class because you don't know what they are. Or even worse, if there is going to be some kind of contest that takes months of prep time and you don't find out about it till the last minute when you need like 6 months to do a decent job on it. FunPub will tell you directly that they don't care about individuals. Someone will fill up the open slots.

Yeah we're about due for some events info - as this will be my first year all I have to go off of is the 2008 itinerary to get an idea of what might go down this year.

I have a reliable contact within FunPub who I spoke to today.

He assures me that Botcon 09 is going on as scheduled and that they have a few extra things this year that took more time to iron out.

I don't have an exact timetable on when the next update will be but it seems fairly imminent.

I hope to see all of you there!
