If TF's existed before the 80's....

I suppose this is somewhat in line with the Evolution series, only in actual reality. What if the TF's had actually started in the late 60's/early 70's? Would they be radically different? Would Soundwave be a record player? Would Tracks be a Mustang? Would Ironhide be a VW Bus? What would be so different about TF's had they begun earlier in time? I can most definitely say what we consider the G1 bricks to be would be even worse considering the technology available during that time (toywise).

I somehow have the feeling that Transformers would have disappeared into obscurity if it was created in the 60's :-?

More like an 8-track - it'd be hard for vinyls to transform into Rumble/Frenzy, Buzzsaw/Laserbeak, Ravage, etc.

They would have existed in the '60s. Speed Racer did. Scooby Doo did. Cartoons were goofy and even more formulaic than today, and normally animated three-on or four-on (read: crappily--see any Scooby Doo episode from 1968). Both cartoons that are still alive and kicking (though excruciating to watch) today.

Soundwave would probably have been the 'home stereo'--turntable, 8 track, and radio combo like I grew up with. That gives him buckets of options for his minions. And it's not like people didn't have cars, or trucks, or guns, or jet planes back then. Crikey, folks. We didn't live in caves wearing filthy loincloths.

And just imagine the hair and flared pants on whichever Witwicky would be the '60s incarnation. Probably with one of those suede vests with beaded fringe. Groovy, dude.

HK, More fun would be to set them in the 1950s. All those cars with big tailfins.... (This is not a double entendre).

I'm now picturing a Soundwave that transformers into a Gramophone.

He wouldn't look all that different.

except for the turntable on his chest and the gramophone coming over his shoulder instead of his concussion blaster. :-B

and being woodgrain instead of blue. :|

Gramophone? Very _Hearts of Steel_.

Only problem with going that far back is all the hand cranks. Cars, victrolas, mutoscopes.... Ewwwwww.

HK, cranky!

Well, they probably wouldn't have been aliens. If I recall something I heard on a Star Wars Docu, Science Fiction was pretty much dead around that time, unitl Star Wars came out.

Transformers would most likely have been created by humans or something, and heck not even sentient.

There's also the factor that in 1969 the FCC prohibited television shows based on toy commercials. Therefore, there would be very few Transformers around at all.

I remember old bendy rubber toys from an earlier era that had a wire armature. Horribly unsafe by today's standards, I could see these as a road to early transformers...

all this talk about hearts of steel style storylines the 60' the 70's and transformers has got my mind stuck remembering that scene from ddp's g.i.joe /transformers volume 2 issue 1

it's the scene where the afro-american pimp in the tan yellow suit and hat sees his pimpmobile transform into jazz
lol

if this keeps up i'll be stuck in a laughing fit like the joker

holy **** people i just had a thought

when it comes to the hanger scene where the joes zartan and the bots bumblebee hotrod and jazz find blitzwing in take a real good look at the 2 undercover cops in the scene at the very bottom right of the page

ARE THE TWO UNDERCOVER COPS TUBBS AND CROCKETT FROM MIAMI VICE?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Yz5aXuRIUM

TAKE A GOOD LUCK AT THE WHOLE GUN SCENE WHO DO YOU SEE?

I like the retro 50's/60's idea... offcourse the toys would have been virualy impossible and the cartoon in black and white but lets run with it.....

Ironhide :

retro 30s/40s

autobots are the allies and cons are the axis. megatron looks like a german luger that transforms into hitler. starscream is a racist asian stereotype, and it would remind us to buy war bonds

Well one thing you would of never seen a cartoon fot them back in the 60's and 70's because it wasn't allowed till the 80's that toys could have toons.

Anyways I allways have thought what would it be like if we got some Transformers of old cars and biplanes

I thought of a line like this back in the late 80's and the name I came up back then was Autobot and Decepticon Classics

Who knew 20 years later new version of the old G1 toys would be called this

Actually something like this happened in a TF/GI JOE crossover comic a few years back. In the 70's Jazz was a lincoln or something and Hot Rod was a Ford Mustang. In the fortys Optimus was an old timey truck, so was MotorMaster and the Stunticons were hot rods. :-B

I remember on another foruma simliar discussion if the movie taken place during the 50s. Like megatron would been a flying saucer and the files for the all spark would been in a filing cabinet heh. I mean who could stopped barn storming Starscream heh.

that would be cool. but the concepts would be hard to put in play but it could be done. the toys would be close to impossible to create.
