While many US Transformers fans are anxiously awaiting Botcon 2010 which will be held at Disney World this summer, later this year South Korea is slated to get a brand new theme park of its own. What will set this park apart is that it will be the first in the world to revolve around robots.

Thanks to Singularityhub.com, here is some more info on what has become known as "Robot Land."

The world’s first major theme park based on robots is coming to Incheon, South Korea. Robot Land has already raised more than 784.5 billion Won (~$680 million USD) to create the 100+ acre facility which will include theme attractions, a water park, residential/commercial space, and professional areas for research. Set to break ground in November 2010, Robot Land will go live in May of 2012, with a full scale opening in 2013.

This thing is going to packed with robots everywhere you look. There will be exhibition halls for popular robot franchises (Astroboy, Star Wars, Transformers, etc), recreations of movie sets (i-robot, Matrix, Minority Report), and plenty of rides and shows. According to the Robot Land website, the park will feature robot cashiers, robotic performances, and robot themed shopping. There will even be a stadium for robotic competitions.

While it remains to be seen exactly how much of the park will feature Transformers, Robot Land certainly sounds unique and promising.

Living here in South Korea, I have known bout this for a while now.

Don't get yer hopes up much though - TFs here are not very popular. In fact the toystores are still packed with only Armada and Movie toys. They don't sell well (in my opinion).

The general population knows bout TF but are more into the japanese robo stuff - in fact the big statue they are gonna build at the park is a korean robot - Teakwon-V. Which is a rip off of the japanese series Mazinger Z.

Knowing Korea like I do, it will likely have a couple TF mentions - but more than not - a korean rip-off copywrite infringement version of TFs.

Besides the amusement parks over here aren't that great (Lotte World and Everland). Not bad, just not great - compaired to parks I have been to in the USA.

BTW - the theme park website is here:

Anyone remember that episode of the Simpsons where they go to Itchy and Scratchy land and the robot Itchy and Scratchy's go on a rampage?

Yeah.

That's why I was very careful not to overstate the role that Transformers will play in the park. Of course, here's hoping that our beloved TF's will have a decent level of involvement.

Thanks for your insight and if you hear breaking news about Robot Land before we post it, feel free to contact us and keep us informed.

I generally agree with that, however, I was recently in the Lotte Mart near Seoul Station and picked up the newly reissued Galaxy Force Super Optimus Prime for 44,000 won (about £25) they also had GF Evac for 14,000 (about £8). Since I missed most of AEC toys, I am glad I am able to pick these up cheap and not second hand.
