Personally id say it was the best written transformers series to date.
Im betting the cost is super high for CG shows with todays technology.

Beast wars is OK, the CG isnt bad in beast wars...not the body designs anyway, but the faces suck. They made the CG look realistic in that show, and not stiff like Energon and Cybertron, and Beast Machines

Yes! Exactly! I think the potential of the Transformer Universe being more than just giant robots beating the heck out each other is realized in a lot of Simon Furman's stories.
Didn't he do a lot of the writing for Beast Wars? I kind of missed out on that show, but I do plan on picking up the series on DVD soon.
