Fun Publications has issued some updates regarding BotCon and Dion. In short, online registration is coming soon, non-attending package registration will be delayed, the Swan and Dolphin are sold out, and Dion is delayed a few more weeks.
Read the update in full below:
Fun Publications wrote:Here are a couple of updates:
1. We are working very hard on the registration system. As you can see from the test site we are very close, however, we found some bugs thanks to your testing, that must be corrected before we go live.
This is not a promise, but we are shooting for the first of next week.
I didn't want you worrying about it all weekend.
Here is how it is going to work. Because of the proximity of the registration timeline to the show, to ensure that everyone who has travel plans can get the package of their choice, we will only put up the attending packages (including classes and tours) when the system goes live. Approximately a week later, we will put up the non-attending package. The printed form will not go online until the non-attending package goes online.
In the meantime, please read all of the FAQs and the brochure (information tab) at BotCon.com before you try to register.
2. Due to the overwhelming number of containers trying to get to the US from China, Dion has been bumped off of two ships already. The figures will get on a ship next week which means they will arrive in about 5 weeks and we plan to ship them to you before BotCon. We have been told there are thousands of containers waiting for ships with availability to be transported to the US. The ships were taken out of service during the economic downturn and they have have not all been reactivated. Have you noticed that there are not many new things in the stores lately? This is why.
3. The Swan and Dolphin hotels are now sold out and we are working on a 3rd property. We will let you know when that is arranged.
Thanks to all of you who helped test the registration system and thanks for your patience and understanding.
Brian

FunPub seems to be having a bit of my luck lately. Hope they manage to pull everything off.

The good part of that is that I don't have to worry about it this weekend. The bad part is that I have limited computer time during the work week, and next week is super busy. I had hoped to have registration long past done.
Hopefully I will get lucky and be online sometime near the time that registration opens.
At least they are breaking it out some.

Here is word for word of a note my wife left for me today. This was before she even knew about the latest delay.
What’s the longest we ever had to wait for Botcon registration in 2007, 2008 and 2009?
I wonder if you’re allowed to email them asking what’s taking so long. Air Tran seems to have a good deal today if you book today but do we book air Tran now and get good deal or wonder if we’ll have a deal after whenever botcon registration is online? It’s Freaking may 6, botcon’s June 24 but we leave June 23 and the registrations not here yet, what the heck.
Btw, my wife is usually not the easily agitated type, which explains why she's been married to me for 4 years later this month.

That's great your wife supports your hobby. I noticed a lot of guys having to sell their collections once they get married.

If by too slow your referring to Dion's delay, I understand the frustration over it, but from what I've just read here it's something they can't control. I can't help but wonder if they could have done something else besides having Dion shipped by freighter, but it's a bit late for that. Since they did go that route, the apparent backlog at the port is something the TFCC can do nothing about. Like I said, it's beyond their control.

I've noticed this too. And not just TFs, but also other hobbies. It might not mean anything, but those girls might wanna be cautious of a guy who's so willing to drop something he loves, might be a sign of how quickly he'd drop her as well.
Or it could just be a case of a particular part of the male anatomy in someone's purse.

Haha!

Fun Pub isn't lying about the delayed freighters. I work in the Dental Supply business and our gloves were delayed by almost six weeks last month.

I'm ok with delays, I still know I'm getting the figure and that's all that matters. At least FunPub is telling us something instead of leaving us hang in the dark. They need to do that more often.

That's kind of where I am about it.

This is actually great for me. I was gonna go see Iron Man 2 tomorrow, or today technically, and I was worried they would put up the registration and I'd miss my chance at the customizing class.

Man, non-attendees having to wait a week until after the system goes live, I feel like I won't even get a shot at this set. That being said, it's really hard to get behind a company that keeps falling behind farther and farther each year. Really hard.

Well thats good to know. But I gotta say with all due respect, what kind of I.T. staff did they hire ??? I would have thought a pannel of experts would have been feasable in the budget for an event of this size. Arent there any ex myspace or facebook employees for hire to create the registration system with ease ???
