Can anyone tell me why Primes are better or different than other autobots? Are they older? Thanks

Depends on the continuity in question. In Animated, it was a military-esque rank. In Bayformers, it was some sort of mystic order, a birthright scenario.

Just depends.

They are leaders chosen by primus in most continuities. Plus, they carry the Matrix Of Leadership.

In G1 and the movies, the first Primes where created by Primus and/or Allspark himself (itself) using the very fabric of the universe, time, and space. The later Primes are born or chosen to lead the Autobots. But in the movies they are a dynasty, where Optimus is the suposed last. We dont know since TF3 hasnt come out yet. But I doubt hes the last.

In Animated, they're just military officials, and in the other series I dont think it matters at all.

But out of those 3 I perfer the Bay movie's portrayal of the Primes, having them be born instead of chosen. But they could have been born to be chosen, so I like a mixture of G1 and the movies.
