Pink foam from Home Depot or Lowes. It comes in a 4x8 sheet. Cost about 11 dollars. Spray paint will melt the foam as well as heat. Use latex paint to cover the foam then you can use spray paint. Gorilla glue to glue the pieces together. Nice and light weight stuff. Good luck! Post a pic. It took me 4 months to make my Starscream/Thundercracker.

Tonka-style construction-themed kiddiebuggy toys can get you plenty of the Devastator 'frilly bits' (ie: cranes, dozer blades and whatever).
Might cost you a fair deal, tho.

I'd be inclined to make the suit strong and rigid enough to stand up on its' own once I'm done with it, or else invest in a second hand mannequin to hold it up.(could even modify the mannequin to look loike a protoform when the suit is off).

Consider seat belt material or military 'webbing' (available by the metre from disposal stores) to use as the internal harness.

Consider trying to do the Long Haul and Hook pieces in two side-by-side parts so you can flex your shoulder blades and shoulders if you'll be wearing it for long. The long Haul engine block will get in your way if you try this, tho.

Your foot might be visible poking through the Scrapper section.Might wanna condense the design a bit there.

Could use nerf weapons as missiles. I assume folks have already thought of that at 'Cons.

Sounds like a fun project,no matter what you do!

I am not sure how to link to a thread on here but you can see how I did my head here:
"Starscream Project ... is completed!" is the name of the thread.
Under the Transtopia, Extensive mods and Kitbashes section. You will find it on page two for May 2008.

I used the pink foam which is easy to work with. My first attempt which is shown in the pics looked like junk but gave me what I needed to make a final version the second time around. I put in a generic mask that I found at the party store and cut up some cheap mirror sunglasses and glued them on for the eyes. The sunglasses get steamed up and is a common problem with star wars costumes also. They recommended installing a fan. I have done this and have not put it in yet to see how it works.

I used luan for the wings and attached them to the back with piano hinges so I could fold them to go through doors and for shipping. My costume is not lightweight but standing for two hours in it is no bother at all.

First of all, how awesome and realistic are you getting with the costume. That's the issue there first off rather than budget. Because then you can figure out the costs as you research for the look you are going for.

Are you going for Gen 1 Devastator?

And yes, check in with the local hardware places, all of them, to see what works. Especially if you need to paint it. And do NOT hesitate to ask for help, even if some of the help have no clue really what you are planning on doing.

Lemme do some checking with a couple people and will get back with you. I've not done a TF... yet.

This does make things easier. Just look for all the Starscream costumes on the net for inspiration. Start with Jace Moore's: http://www.cosplaylab.com/cosplayers/co ... meid=50081
