What's up w/ the big sigs?

Lately I've been seeing these signatures that are way over sized in dimensions and bytes. What's up w/ that? Did the regulations get changed? I use to use a signature that was only slightly larger in bytes (made by someone else) and I got nailed for it. Was threatened to have it removed if I don't change it too. But now I'm seeing all these others popping up everywhere.
And yea, I'm picking a fight here.

While it never really bothered me, I'm noticing some pretty monster sized sigs around here lately as well.

I'm honestly not entirely sure. It's probably something that needs to be discussed.
Are they breaking pages or making the pages load poorly?

Not on my computer. I'll admit, I posted out of vengeful thinking. Why do I get nailed for being slightly over-sized and others get away w/ obnoxious sigs? I am pretty sure these members are getting pms to change the sigs but I'm venting. Perhaps a general post would help to make members more aware of this regulation. I have no doubt the posting rules don't really get read when new members sign up.

The huge sigs certainly take up a lot of space. I also noticed that the pages are taking longer to load recently (I don't know if that is the reason, but it probably doesn't help).

Well, what you guys could do is actually report them to the mods and admins instead of standing there and crying your eyes out. Or kindly point them to the signature rules, which can be found here in General Discussion:

When did you get messaged about it?
Edit: It's the google ads that slow the pages. A solution from Google is forthcoming.

That was a long time ago, give or take a few years. It's no big deal now.

Only a matter of time before someone would say I'm crying my eyes out. As stated by the first response it's not a bad idea to mention this out in the open. And as I said it's not likely the regulations actually read let alone your link clicked on.

I mesured my siggy and it's 500 x 267. 500 in width. Then I take that same thing and go up on other sigs that are wider in length that have had that for months! And I get threatened after 2 weeks of having an oversized sig. Either a mod is retailiating against me or mods aren't fully paying attention.

Damn, Jelze, that's pretty harsh! You're normally more laid back.
I do visit a lot of fansites, and I agree - giant sigs are annoying. Not so much that I'm going to PM a Mod about it, mind you, but it does bug me a little.

I guess sigs are going to be the new discussion and I'm thinking a solution will be made soon.

You post a lot more than some of the ones I've seen with giant sigs. It is only natural that you will be seen more readily than some of the others and thus why a mod contacted you.

I've noticed this in other forums too not just here. It's been going on for long time now, a few years. I remember cause years back in 2007 I was making my sigs according to guidelines till I noticed others were bigger so I started making mine just the same. Not too big but not the guidelines.I figured the rules had changed. It dosent bother that much though and I don't see why it should matter. As long as it fits within the parameter of the threads boxes, who cares really.

It makes no difference if I post more or not. According to the guidelines, if it his higher than 500x375, it is in violation. Posting rapidly or not makes no difference, dang it redundancy! If
anything is in violation of anything, I truely believe it should be reenforced.

If we see something flashy, we'll kindly ask the user to change their signature. If there is a signature floating around that is rule-breaking, then please let the moderators know. We aren't superhuman, and hunting down signatures is the least of our worries.

nah, reckon we don't need a discussion about it. The sig guidelines are fine at the moment, we just have to start monitoring more.
But like always, we're only human and we can miss things, and that's where it would be good for people to drop a Mod a pm or use the "report this post" button and just say "hey, big sig! Killing my download!"
Because we have to remember, not everyone has super fast connections yet and some people browse the site on their phones.

It has become appearant that this is true, like Jelze said, do something about it yourselves (to non-admins) instead of sitting on ya lazy butts crying about it. I have already done an ounce of my part in helping this minor crisis, and I will be determined to get everyone the notice they need before they become completely violated. MINI-MOD TIME!

Harsh? Nah, not even.
Wouldn't this topic have been better off in the General Discussion forum? Just saying.
Anyway, I've noticed a few rather signatures myself, Blackstreak. They just came out of nowhere, didn't they? This site kind of goes through different phases...and I guess this is one of them.

Gyrotron,
I don't think he's saying that you are being penalized for posting more, just that because you post more, your sig shows up more often and is thus more noticible.
Think of it this way... if you and I were both shoplifting in a store with a security guard, but I was the only one shouting "It's mine! Precious!" while stuffing things into my coat, who is the guard going to notice? By posting more, you increase the visibility of your sig, and that's why people noticed. I doubt it's any kind of vendetta.

It just had to be said, to be honest. And who else to say than Seibertron's resident bitch?

That's exactly what I was saying. There isn't any master list that we have to sit through to approve signatures. We only notify users of ones that we either readily see or are reported. So if you have a rule breaking sig and post a lot, then we're going to see it more than someone that make a big sig, posts 2 times month and lurks in HMW.
This thread is reminding me that I still need to get a sig. Any recommendations for artists around here?

Absolutely not.
Do not harass any other members of this board in regards to this matter.

I wish i could get a sig happenin! I have a really sweet one of Magmatron i've been trying to get on here but with my limited computer savvy, can't seem to make it happen.
I do feel some are egregious with out a doubt and take up lot of realestate and aren't that good either. Just sayin.

Thanks for the thread about this. I modified the site's CSS (style sheet) so that it would force a max width of 500 pixels and a maximum height of 375 pixels for an image in our sig. I'd prefer to allow a wider sig and may implement that at some point but in the meantime, I think this should resolve our problem. Please try to keep the actual image you are using to fit within those dimensions. Thanks.

I would have a sig, but I don't know how to do it. Thus why I've haven't ever had one. I do miss the site's pre-rendered avatars we used to have on here, I wish they were brought back...
