I don't know how to spell but Starscream in the old G1 cartoon series use it to clone himself with it. What did he really use it for?

As far as a Starscream clone is concerned, you might be thinking of "A Prime Problem".

That's what I was thinking as well. That was the only occasion in the whole cartoon series where clones ever took place, & only Starscream & Prime were cloned.
