I was at a friends house, and a person there said he was looking forward to the Transformers movies because it looks good for a live action Anime movie. I said TFs weren't anime, but he claimed they were.

So basically, are they anime?

The original series and movie are not considered anime but a
hybrid of American cartoons and anime.

Beast Wars and Beast Machines are Canadian.

Scramble City, Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, Zone, Beast Wars II, Beast Wars Neo, Car Robots (aka Robots in Disguise), Minicon Legend (aka Armada), Superlink (aka Energon) and Galaxy Force (aka Cybertron) are all anime.

The upcoming series is American.

Raymond T. better not see this thread or you'll get a whoopin'.

G1 is not anime. There are a few animation techniques that Japanese artists took from G1 that are now found in anime series (i.e. sweat bubbles, sudden appearance coming out of scenery, personification of inanimate objects), but this doesn't make G1 anime nor is it really a source of anime.

BW and BM was made by Mainframe (same company as ReBoot).

Rid was a Japanese TF cartoon that was dubbed and brought over.

Armada and everything since is just American studios being idiotic and trying to be Japanese and failing at it.

I'll say that American Seasons 1-3 & the Movie are NOT Anime, just everything that followed that wasn't shown here, so Headmasters, Masterforce, etc, etc. BW II & BW Neo are Anime, they have the Anime cartoon style. RID is easily Anime, just look at some screen caps. Basically, everything after BM is Anime IMHO.......I don't think TF's: Animated will be considered Anime, since it will look like that of Teen Titans & The Batman.

Hey, I got a question. Who originally created G1? Was it made in America or Japan? If it was made in America, it may be, like, the last original idea this country's TV producers had.

Last I checked, G1 was an American cartoon using Japanese animation. Can anybody else confirm this?

G1 was created and written by Americans, but they had the animation done by different Japanese animation companies to save money and produce the episodes quickly. This also explains most of the animation errors found in G1 since the people animating it most of the time had no idea what robot was what character nor anything in the script rather than just what they were told to draw.

Transformers Anime?

Wayback,a friend introduced me to transformers......after a break from homework. Buddy somewhere, wife kid..... .
We kinda finished eachothers sentences. We thought it was anime, only toned down a bit from the japanese counter part.

As the storylines and characters got better known, you could see
who was a little darker, good but if you pushed them too far?
You never really saw it,but as example..... if laserbeak, ravage
were really let loose in the catoon bit, they're little terrors as now. Even the good guys, would you truly want to see optimus
on a bad day? It's nice to imagine sometimes instead of seeing.
It gives a lot of insight into a lot of characters. One has
nothing negative about the series.

I wish, there was more thought and development in some series..
because it looks good,a bit violent. You always think where
was this seen before, and who did they try to formulate. It's
the old adage,it's harder to create something original...easier to copy and be easily forgotten.

By that definition, G1 would be an anime then. But since it was written in America, I don't considered it anime. I believe if it's written and made in Japan it's anime.

Most American writen cartoons are animated in asia these days, but I wouldn't call the Simpsons anime just because its animated in S. Korea.
