CFL Bulbs are the enemy of MISB Collectors!

I use the energy efficient Compact Fluorescent bulbs throughout my entire house, including my Transformers room! I use one of these bulbs in the closet, and it has slowly been fading the colors of my MISB Transformers that are around it! The picture below shows my Arcee that was nearest the bulb, compared to Ironhide that was nowhere near it. Check out how much the red has faded from the packaging!

Use stuff that isn't florescent or throws out UV rays. Those are the enemy of all toys.

I keep my collection in a tiny, dark room. No lights, no airflow and the decent stink of coffee. It's the best defence against toydecay.

yeah, I normally keep it pitch black in the room. the window has blinds, thick curtain, and then a wall of Transformers covering it. You can't even tell a window is there. But sometimes I'm lazy and leave the closet light on for days at a time. Now I know better!

Do you have a light shade around your lights that softens the light or do you just use straight bulbs with no cover?

The specific bulb that did this was my closet bulb, so no shade... but yes, throughout my house the bulbs have shades/covers

Then how do the shaded and covered lights effect the toys that are on display?

The toys affected were displayed in my closet in my Transformers room. Go back and read my very 1st post. There's a link to my collection in my signature below, where you can see pics of the entire room and see what I mean about the closet.

I'm just surprised that you keep your figures displayed like that. I don't think I've heard of anyone keeping their collection like that before. I've got stuff displayed throughout the household. It's very hard for me to conceive keeping everything in one room. I was also checking to see if you had any other damage to other stuff in other rooms? However if you're only keeping things in one room like that, I can understand a lot more as to what's going on.

Look bub I read the post. I wouldn't be replying otherwise. Sometimes it's just a matter of somebody wanting clarify what they've read, not a matter of not reading. Not everyone's brains work the same.

anyone with a tf collection, myself included, will want plastic uv shields to cover their cfl light bulbs because our increasingly overbearing and idiotic government has set a deadline, 2014, outlawing the sale of incandescent bulbs. of course cfls also contain bio-hazardous mercury vapor which can cause blindness and can be absorbed through the skin or inhalation resulting in poisoning- don't drop em or throw em out!

see for yourself:

im all for energy efficiency but im also all for, well, living and seeing and small things like that..

cfls are NOT the answer and now that I know their possible effects on my collection im even more angry about this regualtion

im gonna be stockpiling incandescent bulbs myself!

I've heard they're working on an incandescent bulb that's more energy efficient. Yes, CFLs are toxic, but so are batteries, cleaning products, plastic, and several other things in modern life.
