Being obsessed?.

A while back, my father accused me of being obsessed with TF.
I replied along the lines of that I was not obsessed as I don't collect nearly as much as many do, I don't cosplay and I don't attend many cons.

Now I'm starting to rethink that statement, I have times where I think about TF 24/7.
I see a certain RL vehicle go by and I immediately think of the coresponding TF.
I find myself something thinking how things in the RL world would be different if TF were real. RL events and such will remind me of TFs on a regular basis.
I'm thinking, oh well...OK maybe I was wrong, maybe I am obsessed. Maybe I'm just the obsessed type that isn't showing it just because I don't cosplay. I'm clearing not collecting more or going to more cons because of the money funds issue, so maybe those doesn't even count..Hmmm...

OK, what do think it takes to be obsessed, specifically when it comes to TF.

Don't ask me, I flush away one obsession with the next.

I don't think you're obsessed, as you still have control over yourself. I mean, you're not buying a lot of toys, in an instant, just because your mind tells you to, right?

When someone is hoarding Transformer toys to the point of financial ruin and loses sight of reality, that's when he needs help. But not you. I'm basically doing the same things you do, and I don't call myself obsessed, I can take a break whenever I need to. I just need to clean my room a bit...

I have a massive collection, but I don't consider myself obsessed.

I go to school work and don't blow all my money on TFs. Now yes, I'll buy up large lots when I can, but that's a money saving thing. I have a social life outside of the hobby and many people wouldn't even know I have most of this stuff until they actually see it.

You're not alone in seeing vehicles and wondering what they would look like with a robot mode. I think we all do that.

Accept I don't wonder. In my mind I see it, and it's overly complex! Like bayformers Complex, and I don't rest until Iv'e taken it and put it, in some way, shape, or form, into reality. Usually I draw it, very roughly, but I draw it all the same. Sometimes, A good one will come along, and I'll take my Time with it, but it still happens often, whenever I see a new vehicle Iv'e never seen before.

Nah, I'd just say you're in a current TF high right now. It's on your mind, it'll be that way until something else takes its place.

I think that you enter the realm of "obsession" once it starts interfering with other aspects of your life. For instance, I'm not sure if you have a girlfriend or other form of significant other, but does your desire to spend time with your collection prevent you from spending time with them? Or are TFs the only thing you can bring yourself to talk about with your close friends? Have you been shirking responsibilities, taking days off of work or stopped participating in hobbies/activities you used to do on a regular basis, just so you can do something TF-related?

If so, then yeah, you probably have a bit of an obsession going on, and unless you want to see a doctor about it or something it can usually be fixed by finding another hobby to be a distraction from it. Like I said though, it really doesn't seem like you're at this point. So, just like the images of that poopy '94 Celica driving down the street transforming into an incredibly badass mechanical alien, it's all in your head, buddy :BOT:

Well I do intend to wrap up my fish keeping hobby so I can return to toy collecting more actively.
There's a bunch of TF toys I want.
I'll still be a fish keeper, but I want to end spending money on that hobby except basics like keeping the fish fed. It would be nice if my project to breed my catfish( I'd be the second person in the world to breed these) turns my fish keeping hobby into a self sustaining one that keeps them fed, can only hope.
Then again, I also plan to increase my MLP( my little pony) hobby a bit and do some customizing as I have some "bait" ponies around.

ill agree with many others on here and say its a healthy obsession as there are worse things to think about.

funny thing that i read this thread today. i was out shoe shopping and saw three nissan GTR'S in red, black and white and instantly thought of my tf's. also on the highway ive often looked at car carriers and wished they would just transform. trust me your not alone.when it starts to affect how you priortize your life then you may have a problem.

ive even gone hiking with the misses and asked her "if the whole planet started to transform what would you do?" moments like that are fun especially the crazy looks i get sometimes

I download New TF toy pics to my hard drive computer. whenver I see new TF toys comming out soon from botcon,SDCC,Toyfair,hts.com & Elsewhere. The main reason I do this is so I can study the toy designs in great detail months before they hit stores. So i can cancel out which ones i'm not going to buy & only buy the ones I like. Doing this helps me save money & doesn't allow me to do impluse buys at the stores.

I've sold more than half of my transformers toy collection. because I was a mid level completist. I basically got rid of all the transformers I didn't like or out grew. I only kept the stuff I liked.

I often re-examine my TF toy collection every now & then. look thru all the storage boxes. take all the toys out & decide what I like & what I don't like anymore or what I outgrew. then I sell what i don't like or outgrew.

When the DVD era came in the 1990's. I threw out all my VHS tapes & switched over to the DVD's.

I think it's healthly for fans to re-examine their toys/media collections every now & then. and get rid of stuff they no longer like or out grew. doing this makes you less obsessed. less of a hoarder. you get more space in your house. you get more money in your pocket selling stuff you no longer like or out grew.

I'm kinda PROUD of myself for the DOTM TF toy line. because I only bought 5 toys I really liked & wanted which were as follows: Leader sized sentinel prime, leader sized ironhide. voyager sized megatron, voyager sized skyhammer. $29.99 human allegiance Roadbuster.

I actually even went as far as re-examining my TF comics collection. I got rid of a bunch of duplicate issues from marvel TF G-1 & g-2. I got rid of all the dreamwave TF Armada & energon comics. I got rid of all the Dreamwave/DD G.I joe verse transformers comics. I got rid of the marvel super heroes verse transformers comics. I sold everything to my comic book store.

For the most part I've never considered myself one of the obsessive TF fans. I don't walk around in TF clothes. I don't decorate my walls & bed in TF themed stuff. I don't go to any conventions. I don't feel the need that I have to own everything TF related or i'm missing out or i'm less of a fan. I don't try to compete with anyone,I buy what i like & leave the rest for others. I don't feel the need to buy something I hate just because it's worth a lot of money on the secondary market.

I keep my Transformers hobby a secret from my co-workers. because If I were to tell them. they'd make fun of me for playing with toys. they'd think something was wrong in my head. they'd think I was a man-child. I kinda like my job & want to keep advancing up the ladder into higher lever postitions that offer more money. Only my immediate family knows I collect transformers toys.
